Oh....sorry Don. I posted the wrong photo. It was suppost to be this photo of this years Miss Harvest Moon beauty contest winner. There were many contestents but this young lady has won for 3 straight years now. Purrrdy aint she. -

Here's how I test my speedo's. Just chuck up the old DeWalt ,put it in reverse and pull the trigger. It's much easier if you aren't trying to photograph the procedure.

If none of that works hows about drilling on through to the other side, like the big block engines, and installing 4 new nuts and bolts.

I bought this 49 Dodge in about 06 for $2450. It only needed a new battery and an ignition wire to get it running again. I did have to rebuild the brakes too. The upholstery had been totally redone years earlier but was still in very good shape. I sold it in 07 for $2900. The roof rack was mine and just sitting on the roof for the photo. Just another comp for you. -
That's a sweet little car EXCEPT for the flames. In my book flames look like graffiti or vandalism.

I wouldn't remove the speedometer. It sounds like a simple case of a broken cable. Just disconnect the cable from the speedo and transmission and take the 2 pieces to a speedo shop for a new cable. Before installing the new cable squirt lots PB blaster down the cable housing from the speedo end and grease up the inner cable. Make sure the cable housing isn't crimped or damaged or the new cable won't last very long.

There are thousands on eBay. You do get what you pay for though. The cheap ones doen't even last a season.

Was the engine reving up while the car was slowing down? If so it would be the fluid drive slipping. If not then something else is wrong. You can go 35 mph's easily in 2nd so maybe a downshift would have helped. Try the hill again only shift into second at about 30 mph's.
