  1. There was probably a miscommunication but my wife just called the Inn and the person she talked to never heard of the Golden State Region Plymouth Owner's Club. Is there someone special we need to speak to? We're going anyway. d-
  2. Silly question... but Do you have to smog that car? It's registered as a 47 so is the engine exempt? Just curious. It's a beautiful car. Of course it is it's a Plymouth.
  3. Living in the desert (lots of sand and stuff) so I put a filter between the tank and the electric fuel pump and another one on the line before the carb. It seems to work.
  4. I've been trying to do this by the book. I did a search and read past posts. Problem is even the service manual says there are 3 adjustments. My brake only has 2. I looked at the picture int he service manual and it doesn't match up. I don't have the 3rd adjusting nut. The brake will hold on flat ground but not on an incline. Suggestions...
  5. It's good to see another MoPar has been saved. It's a beautiful piece of history and I hope you will enjoy it for many years. Good lookin' car -
  6. Me again - sorry. If you look closely at the parts blow up you can see the crimp in the shaft of the handle but there is no clip. What holds it on?
  7. Okay - I'll give it a try tomorrow. I was thinking of pressing it out but that would surely break something. I'll try rotating it though it's hard to get in there. I don't really need the handle what I really need is the collar. Is that something that could be made? Then use some sort of clip? Thanks for the input.
  8. I took my whole trunk handle assembly off and took it to a lock smith to get a key made. While it was off I remembered I had a better looking assembly and so I put the lock in the new one. I can't get the handle out. It looks like it's crimped on. Is there a trick? I've got to get it off so I can get the sleeve that holds the handle. Suggestions appreciated.
  9. My wife told me if I get another car she's moving out... I'm still thinking about that...
  10. Wow! I didn't know it could be so complicated. I just ran a wire from the pump to the ignition. Turn on the key it turns on the pump. I would hope if I get into an accident I would be able to turn off the ignition. I had always thought about putting the fuel pump on a switch but not because of an accident but a cheap anti theft device.
  11. I don't know how this sort of thing works but would it be worth it if we all stayed at the Santa Maria Inn if there might be a chance for some sort of discount. My wife was checking on line and their room rate is $119. Perhaps we could get some sort of volume rate. Just checking. thoughts? d-
  12. I had to shop around for someone to chrome anything. One thing they all agreed on was $300 per bumper. This was a few years ago. One guy was just going to swap them out. It's interesting how much stuff is chrome and how much is stainless. I was going to try to polish some of the stainless myself. Very time consuming. It was worth it to have it polished. Very pleased with the outcome.
  13. Where are they now?
  14. Count me in. Pismo is a couple hours from my house. This is beginning to sound like fun.
  15. For those of us who work perhaps a Saturday might be a better day.
  16. Okay - I know this sounds trite but "It's a small world." There aren't a lot of native Californians much less San Franciscans. I grew up on Lincoln Way across from Golden Gate park. I am amazed at how many Don Jordans there are. I'm not sure Donald was ever a really popular name but there are quite a few just on this board. The only ones I can think of from the old days is Don Ameci, Donald Pleasence, Donald O'Conner, and Donald Duck. You lived in Redwood City? I graduated from Sequoia High School and went to College of San Mateo. We need to get all the cars in a circle - have a beer, tell lies.
  17. When you say "Old Plymouth owners" do you mean OLD PLYMOUTH owners or OLD plymouth OWNERS - just curious -
  18. I guess one of the key factors is I feel safe with the guy. We chatted about old cars and he seemed very knowledgeable. He even knew about the colors in the speedometer - which I've never seen because I don't have my dash lights hooked up yet. I get it back in a week. Just to be on the safe side I found another one (untested) for $100 and that came with all the gauges.
  19. I know I should always ask first because when I just jump in and do something someone always tells me where they could have it done cheaper. There used to be a lot of speedometer shops - now they seem to be rare. I found one on line close to where I work. He is going to repair my speedo for $200. Does that sound right? I just bought one at a junk yard for $100 and that included the entire gauge cluster. Hey - it's only money.
  20. I just went up north (Sacramento to San Francisco back to LA) - at 55 mph it takes a little longer but I'm ready for a meet. Fresno is about 1/2 way. Problem is some of the MoPars I've seen look like they are a little quicker than my poor 218.
  21. Grapevine! I actually went around it going up and back. I'm sure the car would have made it but I didn't want to push it. I went through Bakersfield to the 99. Came back on 101 through Santa Barbara. It wasn't as fast but I was in no hurry. I'm up in the bay area a lot. I am 3rd generation San Francisco. I call Redwood City home.
  22. I don't know how to make them bigger. I've seen really big shots and they do look nice - but it's all I can do to get the little ones on.
  23. After 8 years in the making I finally took my P15 for a ride. I drove from Southern California to Sacramento for the state fair. The total trip was about 800 miles. I don't know for sure because about 100 miles into it I broke the speedo cable. I will ask questions about that later. It ran like a dream. I'm not sure how fast I was going - I did it all by the engine sound. Not too fast. I'd say I averaged about 50 mph. I'd say I put in about 11 gal about every 200 miles. It would run for 4 hours at a constant speed. The entire trip I did not put in any water and it never got over 180°. What a dream car. It went the same up hill as down. No strain. I just had a wonderful time. Stopping for gas people come up and ask what year is it and tell me stories about their parents that had a car just like it. It just ran terrific. I had 2 minor problems which I would like to ask about later. d- These pictures are from the Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno, CA.
  24. Look at the wire that seems unraveled. Some how that does not look right. It has been oiled, babied, taken care of. I don't know if it's possible to rewire the speedo. I'm hoping someone will know. I have a feeling I'm probably SOL.
  25. I was out for a drive and my speedometer started making a loud buzzing noise. While I was driving I reached under the dash and just wiggled the cable and the noise stopped and the needle appeared to be working. After a few miles it began again so I just disconnected it. Today I hooked up a drill to the cable and it make noise and shook. So I took the speedo out. Silly me. Now what do I do? It appears that the needle is just sitting there - not being held on by anything. I don't know what to do. Do they still have speedometer shops? Would they work on something like this? I'm leaving on a trip to Sacramento (about 400 miles) Wednesday and I'm trying to get all the bugs out. If I can't figure it out I'll just swap the one out of my other car until I get back. There are wires inside. They don't appear tightly wound to anything. I'll try to take some pictures. I thought everything was going to be so perfect. buggers
