  1. G.I. Joe...A real American Hero.....The cartoon version from the 80's.
  2. Just cause you can do something with more technology...doesn't mean you should. K.I.S.S method people!!
  3. Free is always a good price...hope it loosens up so you can "free" it up for a rebuild.....
  4. Another fine example of the "No one left behind" in our public schools.....
  5. I've been using the Eastwood manifold paint for years. If the manifolds are prepped properly the paint can last for years. Biggest thing I found is to have the manifolds blasted clean, sand or bead blasting is the best, I did garnet (Crushed ruby) one time and the paint tinted after heating a curing. Once the manifold has been blasted make sure you clean it really well, I use lacquer thinner, or acetone. Once that's done make sure you stir the eastwood paint thoroughly, the little cans like to settle out and I find it can take 15-20 minutes of constant stiring to get the solids suspended in the liquid again. Then brush on a few coats and let cure. Make sure you fire up the car outside since the fumes from the curing paint are wicked.
  6. Really that many....I had come across numbers a lot less then that. Well I've been wrong before, and will be again. Thanks for the info!!
  7. A very rare car indeed. What was the production number for 46/47/48 Desoto convertibles...Under 400 units I believe?
  8. I really like the black and white photo. I have a number of places I've been recording for photo shots when I get Fernando on the road.
  9. Thanks Fred, Let me know what you find. I'm going to make an attempt to use the parts I have here first. I can always have a little machining done to the balancer if necessary. If that does not work out then I might need one from a 228.
  10. If the Poly motor and Hemi are of the same brand, size and relative year, then yes you can. You will need the intake, heads, cam, lifters, pushrods and probably the exhaust manifolds...but it can, and has been done.
  11. That manifold PatS posted a pic of sure looks like a early Hemi manifold. I wonder if they are the same? I know some of the earlier poly motors could easily be converted over to a Hemi with a Head and intake swap....as long as the poly was the in the same Hemi family.
  12. Here's a Poly 318 4bbl weiand for sale over on the C-body dry dock... http://cbodydrydock.com/forum_viewtopic.php?10.116995
  13. Anyone? Guess I'm on my own to blaze this one out eh.....Will update what I find and do.
  14. I just went out a measured the one form my 1956 25" 228CUin motor...it's 15 7/8" from the bottom of the bell (cap at the top of the dipstick) to the bottom tip. I then measured the one on my 1948 25" 251cu-in motor. It's 16 1/4" from top cap to bottom. It does not have the bell like the 228 does. If you take into account that the bell slips over the dipstick tube about 1/4" then the two measurement are almost identical at 16 1/8" long.
  15. Scotty T...I caught your little sarcastic tone on the "Cough up".... Personally I like to keep things brand specific and true...but as stated it's YOUR car and YOU can build it however you like. I would never bad mouth the hard work someone has put into their car. I have seen a couple for sale on the local craigslist...should be able to track down a single four barrel easier then the multi carb units. Maybe through a "Wanted" add on your local craigslist, or here in the site classifieds.
  16. Great pics, and your wife looks great posing with the car...Thank you both for sharing.
  17. I'm going to be putting the Desoto away for the next 6 months or so. But during this time I will be doing some work to the rebuilt 228 I have sitting in the garage. One thing I noticed on the 228 was the lack of a harmonic balancer. I've searched through the archives and could find a definite answer to my question. The toasted 251 that is in Ol' Fernando right now has a harmonic balancer on it and I would like to move it, and matching water pump and pulleys over to the 228. Will the 228 crank and front timing cover accept the 251 balancer? Or at least will the balancer mount on the 228 crank? I can move the timing cover over if I have to.
  18. I'm very lucky that my neighbor is a car guy and lives next to me. When I get so frustrated I can barely think straight I wander over and get him. He's figured out many a problem that my red hazing eyes just could not see.
  19. When I got my 68 Chrysler Town and Country wagon home and started rummaging through it I found a bunch of maps from the late 60's/early 70's from WA, OR, BC and AB. Very cool map though! Did they say where they found it?
  20. Wow!! Thank you for posting that up.
  21. The down shifting definitely sounds like a kick down linkage issue, or the amount of throttle pressure going to your tranny. This is VERY important for mopar transmissions, without it your tranny will burn up in no time. Carbs can be tricky. I find the rebuilt/manufactured carbs are set up poorly at best. I usually pull them apart, fresh out of the box, and re-set all the factory specs. Then you will need to fine tune it to your specific motor. But I too have been there many times...pull the cover over the car and walk away. You'll come back to it when the time is right. I once left a car for 3 years before I started working on it again....
  22. Very nice, I enjoyed those. Thanks!
  23. Yup seems right. Grab a set of 15" rims...decent 14" tires are getting harder to find. Do some searching on E-bay for dog dish caps, or wheel covers and find something you like. Here's my wagon with 15" rims and "Chrysler" dog dish caps. These caps only came on a newport in 67/68.
  24. My 68 Chrysler Town and Country wagon had factory 14"x6.5" rims on it. It was 4 wheel power drums as well. I believe the 15" was optional on most cars pre-1969, and might have been standard with the factory disc brakes. You can use a 15" rims from most any mopar, cars, truck and vans, from the mid 60's right on up to the mid to late 80's. I have a set of 15" x 6.5" on my wagon now that I just grabbed from the trunks of various cars in the wreckers. As long as it's a 5x4.5 bolt pattern your golden.
  25. I heard a quote years ago that pertained to the people we have in government...."The people who we truly need in Government, are generally too smart to get into politics"....or some variation close to that.
