  1. i myself modified a ford f-250 4X4 drag link. the tapers are correct, just a little small, so some washers are needed. i chopped out about 5-6" of the center and welded it back in with a tube. these are adjustable and readily replaceable.
  2. well, if i could figure a good way that does not cost more than my truck to get it here, then sure. thats the issue here. i will always accept engine parts if i can get em'
  3. believe me, i still want it. this is just not going to be my last truck/tractor, so i am exploring for other vehicles. i am by no means giving up this hobby any time soon.
  4. i like inlines, its just my style, and near impossible to find another flathead, where besides ford would i find a flathead v-8? (and yes, it must be a flathead)
  5. i have an idea, how would an IHC engine fit?
  6. well, last night i got pissed and lit the whole frickin engine on fire by chuckin it in a bonfire. in the process, i melted #1 cylinder (no damage to block) and this afternoon i tapped on the pistons and they all fell out! only 2 are useable, the others were already broken and/or melted. the con rods are fine, and the motor appears to have suffered no cracks or warping. so, it looks like i may get my $20 out of it anyways!
  7. which hole? are you talking about the holes in the side of the block with the dist. if so, those are freeze plugs, AKA welsh plugs
  8. not this again! why not the right?
  9. alright, cool. the disks are a good choice, and the driveshaft should bolt right up, as cherokees use the EXACT SAME universal joint, and the length should be about the same. your only concern will be the ledges where the springs mount, which are available through northern tool for $5 if i remember right. you wont be dissappointed with this swap, i got a 3.5 cherokee in my truck, and it still has some get up and go. mine was a 1-2 night project to replace the gaskets, oil, and perches and bolt it all up. good luck! josh
  10. i am merely finding the best alternative, and this engine was just causing too much crap with my father to a point where i couldnt walk in the house without getting a 2 hour arguement. the engine i got with the truck sat full of water for 40 years, and would be much more difficult to fix at this point, so i am finding the easiest current alternative. these trashed engines will eventually be rebuilt and kept around for spares. i am unsure of the pistons and cam, they are all rusty, so until i can pull it i dont know. BTW: i have only thought of rebuilds and replacements. there is no good frame swap for a 1.5 ton truck.
  11. that could be a concept. i am now thinkin of keeping the engine and slowly rebuilding it as a spare, seeing as they both would use it.
  12. alright, my father and i have finally come to a truce, and i must find another home for this 230 engine to make room for another, as i have found it to be beyond my skills or budget. so, if anybody is interested, i am selling the engine with all the parts i got off of it for the $40, just making $5 for hauling it from BRF to kenosha. the head, crankshaft, water pump, and flywheel are off, but i still have all of the hardware in my bucket o' bolts. if anybody is interested, just send a PM

  15. okay, now its personal. first, my father wagered $20 that the 230 combine motor i bought will never run again. now he tells me that it is pointless and completely destroyed and to give up completely. this is all just fuel to make me do it and make it go again, even though i dont have money, so if anybody has some spare parts they can send my way, that would be awesome, because this is now just a challenge to me. to start, i need at least 2 pistons and ring sets. any help at all is appreciated, even if it means showing up and helping or just plain advise. for now, the cam is "destroyed" because it has surface rust.
  16. well, i went ape **** on one piston and almost got it out, letting it soak overnight
  17. no, its LP6, and we already have it halfway torn apart, got the crank out last night, goin for pistons today, next the valves and cam. so far, i only need 2 pistons for it, as they are fractured.
  18. well, the good news is that i got an engine for $35. the bad news is that its locked up and i have no clue what it is except for massey harris. the only markings on it as far as model goes are "LP6" any ideas what it is? its a 23" head.
  19. how does that work? all the ford seats i measured were 60", and my seat was 56" i found that what looks to be a 70's GM work van, which just drops in in place of the old seat once you unbolt the legs.
  20. you most likely deprived the cylinder and piston of lube, and the piston and rings either wore severely or melted, thus making the compression go out the window, thus explaining the "putt putt" it does not have the power to run unless you give it high RPM's and some ether and it may work
  21. alright, it now seems i will need to rebuild my stock carb that is the same as it has been for roughly 30 years, the new gas has finally eaten the gaskets and whatnot inside. now i question if i could put on dual stock carter carbs and how much of a improvement that would be and is it worth it? this would go into my 53 1/2 ton, and the stock motor seems rather peppy as-is.
  22. alright, then in that case, what would dual stock carters do for me?
  23. i never rebuilt the carb in my truck, its just the same as it was 30 years ago and runs great, but it is now starting to dissolve the old gaskets and whatnot, so i was debating whether to rebuild the stock carter carb or put on the aftermarket holley glass bowl carb that i have laying around. would it be worth considering performance-wise or should i just go stock?
  24. thing looks even better than both my trucks combined and he has the balls to call it a rat-rod, im sure you could almost drive it as-is!
  25. well, crap in that case. i would if i had extra cash to sling around, but it all goes to my MMT's
