  1. I had a break in my schedule, so I opted to begin the cleanup process on pb by deleting several images in a folder that I never linked anywhere, deleting each pic individually. Half way through this, the entire folder disappeared, which included pictures that I knew were linked onto this site. And sure enough, pb has no recycle bin to recover deleted pictures, so that folder is gone for good...however, the linked pictures are still active here (for now). I've looked on my laptop, android tablet and phone, and am somehow looking at images linked to a pb directory that is no longer available to me...go figure
  2. Excellent news on your progress...of course, we never seem to stop working on these old buggies, we just take a break every once in a while from fiddlin' with something
  3. Something that could be tried that is not so labor intensive might be adjusting tire pressures up or down...on the QuadCab, Dodge recommends running 80psi on the rear for optimum payload, but I rarely load that thing up as the truck hauls light loads or just myself. So I lowered the pressure to 75 in dry summer months and 70 for the rest of the year, and the ride is much smoother, tire wear appears to be normal, traction is very good.
  4. Luckily, I have all of the pb pics in organized folders on my laptop, which is backed up to Norton cloud service. This site has been the only place I have linked pics, so I am more concerned with removing pics from pb and links here going dead similar to what happened earlier. I'm slowly catching up on summer chores, so I reckon I'll start getting things straightened out sooner than later with these picture files. I'm still kinda concerned what's going to happen with the "inactive" profiles, such as Don Coatney's, et al...he mentioned some time back that he had not seen a bill from them in quite some time, so I wonder if they grandfather in certain accounts or will just demand payment asap otherwise pb will grey out linked pictures on websites or if picture access will determine bandwidth usage that might determine billing priority...I reckon we'll know something by the end of the year...

  6. If your tires are not all the same brand, model and size, the suspension will act a little squirrelly. The tires are considered another spring in the suspension, and differing tires will have different spring rates. I needed to replace 2 tires on the QuadCab a few years ago and was surprised to find out that Firestone had discontinued the Transforce HT and replaced it with the HT2...similar but not the same tread, kinda whip-sawed in corners and hoooo-boy was that thing squirrelly in emergency avoidance turns. When I replaced the other pair earlier this year, that truck was as right as rain in every handling situation
  7. In 2 years, them struts might be worn out enough to replace'm with new...Monroe usually ran a rebate promotion in the spring and fall, but hasn't done that in awhile...that plus online retailer discounts is how I've replaced shocks and struts for several years, with the savings I've used to put cheese on my hamburgers
  8. If there is a plain steel option out there, I'm not finding it...the Jeep suppliers have chrome or stainless, the blackout option has a different setup, Chevy suppliers look to have only chrome or stainless...the parts manual shows only one part number for the B-series and Route Vans, but in several of Bunn's books, there are photos of black headlight doors or rims or trim rings on larger B-series trucks and Route Vans. Bunn also elaborated in his illustrated buyer's guide that Korean War supply restrictions started late in '51 into '52, where headlight doors and parking light bezels were painted black instead of chrome plated. I have a pair of black ones that I sourced on eBay years ago, and they are heavily weathered, slightly pitted die cast. For C-series trucks, I have not seen any painted headlight doors documented. Years ago, I was looking for low cost replacement headlight doors that were used on older RVs and construction equipment, but found nothing any different than what was available from Roberts. As far as I know, there is no plain steel headlight door available as chrome or stainless are the readily available options on the market.
  9. pb must be in need of revenue to boost their quarterly numbers as the attention-getting email I received this morning had the headline "Do you want to keep your account?" then went on to explain that in keeping with pb's security policies that I need to log in to keep my account "active"...failure to login will restrict my account for my protection...what does THAT mean?!? So I dug up my password and logged in this morning, and was immediately met with the warning that my account was over limit, then given options on payment plans...looking at my folders, another has been emptied, and another folder is missing. Them folks really know how to help me make up my mind and move everything to this site (that I make an annual contribution to anyway)
  10. Removing that cap could be problematic as it needs a tight fit to stay put during operation. That ball joint could possibly be locked up with rust...soaking in Marvel Mystery Oil for a week might yield some positive results. If there is still grease in there, an O-A torch could be used to liquefy the grease to drain out of the zerk port by applying the tip of the flame to the casting from that port to just opposite that port, at a rate of 5 seconds round trip.

  12. Weak valve springs might be causing valves and lifters to bounce around on the cam at high rpm...
