  1. I'm surprised, I've never seen one...ya learn something every day.
  2. I thought John Burke's was the only one around...I was wrong. Scroll down a bit at this link: http://ruffrodders.com/forum/showthread.php?t=37228
  3. I think by '53, if it was fluid drive, it would have a shift indicator on the column like an automatic. I don't think they were putting regular 3 speeds behind fluid drive that late.
  4. I haven't seen the movie, but I have read about the battle as well. Makes you wonder where we would be today without guys like that. Makes you wonder if guys like that still exist in numbers that large...sometimes I wonder. I'm glad Canadians are involved just to show that we do get along with and largely support our huge neighbor to the south.
  5. The one I saw on a Cockshutt combine was also on a sliding skid, kinda like a drawer. It would slide open for service and the "drawer" could be unbolted for removal with the engine still attached, but it was quite high off the ground. Probably an engine hoist in a pick-up would do the trick.
  6. A local costume designer has donated her services to the Innauguration: http://calgary.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20090111/CGY_inaguration_parade_091011/20090111/?hub=CalgaryHome
  7. When I was in Jr high school back in the 60's I built quite a few models (still have most of them) My dads boss bought a new 67 Thunderbird 2 door and I went and bought the new AMT 67 T-bird and built a replica of his, at wood shop in school I built a base for it and mounted two pen holders on each side and gave it to him. He had that thing on his desk long after the real car was sold and I got about 50/75 referrals to do the same for his friends and family and even customers who saw it on his desk. I also made a bunch for a couple of car dealers here for the salesmens desks. I charged $45 back then. Good money for a 13/14 yr old!! The only drawback was that they were dust magnets and tough to clean without damaging them. I did a couple with plastic covers before I stopped. I still have one or two in a box somewhere.
  8. Carports are allowed here if they meet code which is just so they don't fall down or drain onto the neighbors property. In some areas attached garages are not allowed if you already have separate garage. One former neighbor got a permit to build a carport, and did one year. Next year, without permits, he filled in the front with a stucco wall which matched the house. Nobody complained. Next year he filled in the side wall and sided it with stucco, and nobody complained. The next year he built the last wall for the door but didn't put the door in. Nobody complained. That fall he had the door installed and he's had a nice attached garage for 20+ years. Nobody complained. Sometimes ya just gotta do what you gotta do Those portable car tents are allowed here and are used quite a bit to hide a non runner or parts car which isn't allowed as of last year. Actually any outbuilding without a permanent foundation like garden sheds don't need any permission or permits. Many people are using that law to haul those UGLY shipping containers onto their yards, now those things are ugly! Maybe throw some siding on or something but nobody does...ugh
  9. 1949 Chrysler Windsor Club Coupe 1955 Chrysler 300 1966 Chrysler 300 Convertible 1968 Plymouth GTX 1969 Plymouth Sport Fury and one non Mopar...1964 Pontiac Grand Prix (yes, I love the boats...)
  10. This ad just showed up in the local Kijiji. If anyone wants anything and I can help out, just let me know. http://calgary.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-classic-cars-1951-Plymouth-Parts-W0QQAdIdZ98838870
  11. My brother went to work one morning in December to find that the company was closing the division he was dispatcher in. There had been rumours, but our economy here is still going well, so there was some doubt. Ten of these guys got together, bought 3 trucks and will start their new business Monday morning with 4 months worth of signed contracts. The smaller, more adaptable company with less overhead should be able to do well, but it's still a shock for guys who are used to working for someone else. As a province, we lost 16,000 jobs in December alone. It's only going to get worse. My job is safe for the time being but you never really know for sure. I also agree that this is not happening by accident...not even remotely. If we are crippled and on our knees, we are that much easier to control and that's what it's all about...control.
  12. One (forward most) is for access to the fluid coupling to check/add fluid and the other is for access to the governor/solenoid/interrupter switch on the M6 semi automatic transmission. Heater core on a '50 Coronet would be on the front inner passenger side fenderwell with a cardboard tube ducting the hot air into the cabin. Those heater hose connections, if that's what they are, aren't stock and there shouldn't be a thermostat for the heater under the dash...must be something added later...maybe windshield washer system?
  13. Same here, Fred. Only main drags are cleared, side streets are never touched and some become impassable. Been very cold (-20's c )for a couple of weeks but now we go to +5c (41f) for a few days...gonna get real real greasy and messy!! This was taken today, Friday the 9th, my 49 parts car and the front clip from the 50 DeSoto I have yet to dismantle: Looking forward to +5c (41f) to get rid of some of this white depressing crap:(
  14. A husband walks into Victoria's Secret to purchase a sheer negligee for his wife. He is shown several possibilities that range from $250 to $500 in price -- the sheerer the higher the price. Naturally he opts for the sheerest item, pays the $500 and takes it home. He presents it to his wife and a asks her to go upstairs put it on and model it for him. Upstairs the wife thinks (she's no dummy)'I have an idea. It's so sheer that it might as well be nothing. I won't put it on but I'll do the modeling without my clothes on (he'll never know the difference) and I'll return it tomorrow and keep the $500 refund for myself.' She appears naked on the balcony and strikes a pose. The husband says 'Good Grief! You'd think for $500they'd at least iron it!' He never heard the shot. Funeral on Thursday at Noon. Closed coffin
  15. When I put my bracket in a few years ago (it was from Mr Street Rod) there was no need to take anything apart, just locate it properly as per the instructions. It used Chevy pick-up front shocks (73 to 87). Used the stock Mopar lower shock mount. (These pics are from the Rod and Custom article linked below) http://www.rodandcustommagazine.com/techarticles/135_0501_1951_plymouth_suburban_wagon/index.html
  16. The front ends are virtually identical, so the bracket will fit both, as well as Chrysler and DeSoto.
  17. As we age, we tend to end up seeing more of the medical establishment. For example, my internist referred me to a female urologist. I saw her yesterday and she is gorgeous. She's beautiful and unbelievably sexy. She told me that I have to stop masturbating. When I asked her why, she said....... "Because I'm trying to examine you..."
  18. I think it's the single most dramatic improvement that can be made to our cars. Changes the feel from a bowl of Jello to almost a modern car feel, in a good way. And it can be reversed if a future owner wants.
  19. How about Rhino Lining??? With proper prep, moisture can't get behind it, it will not come off (even if you want it off!) It's certified for potable water and restaurant floors, so is safe for the inside of a car...no offgassing or odors. (not all boxliners are certified for water/food contact) Great insulation for sound. Great for the inside of the roof...no adhesive to fail under the headliner. Good for inside the doors...no moisture can get behind it to rust. Will outlast you and the car Like anything, if you do the prep it's that much cheaper. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOWlLEtUpvY Drawback is it has to be applied by Rhino unless you have the specialized sprayer $$$$$$ Colormatching is available. (no, I have no interest in the company but a buddy has a dealership here in Calgary...the stuff is amazing)
  20. Norm, the last time I checked, there was no rule about having to own an old Mopar in order to participate in the forum. Good luck on selling the coupe and getting a newer driver but stick around the forum.
  21. Don, the speech is quite old, so I'm sure the job is OK. Highly unlikely the Fed is going anywhere despite this expose'. Must be a very cool, interesting place to work!
  22. The Creature from Jekyll Island - A Second Look at the Federal Reserve... http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=-8484911570371055528&ei=laRdSfPbLqHaqAOWiozxCg&q=the+creature+from+jekyll+island&hl=en
  23. It seems that it's existence was known, possibly by the family as well but maybe they didn't realize the value or that it would be left to them: James Knight, international head of Bonhams' motoring department, said: "I have known of this Bugatti for a number of years and, like a select group of others, hadn't dared divulge its whereabouts to anyone." Just makes you wonder what other treasures are sitting covered in dust in some obscure garage or barn. I'm sure nothing like that will ever be left to me ;(
  24. Mine went up at renewal as well. With all they have done, that I don't use, I expected it. Still not a happy camper when you add in the exchange rate. At $25 bucks it was a great deal and one I didn't mind spending but next year I'll have to rethink it. It is quite a luxury item and I'll have to drop it or use it a whole bunch more. If they increase again, it's gone.
  25. Looks good, Fred. The old Walter P. seems to be smiling away basking in the sun.
