  1. I'm with Young Ed on that one - the rear fender trim is enough on the Dodge and it looks GREAT. By the way, in answer to Bingster's question, I know Dean bought a full set of re-popped 46-48 Ch*v skirt trims (available on Ebay for about 60 bucks) then just used the two shortest on each side. He's also detailed the stripes in red. It's very smart!
  2. Guys, Check out this story of an amazing car... Here's the HAMB thread http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=330919 And a direct link to more details http://www.atomicradar.com/2008/12/our-new-1957-chrysler-new-yorker/#content WOW!
  3. 1948... or 2008?
  4. I obviously had to pick up on this thread. Agreed that you'll find lots of new clothes that 'tip their hat' to the styles of earlier periods, but there is absolutely no substitute for genuine vintage. What you can buy today can't begin to be compared to the fabrics, quality, cut and workmanship of vintage clothes (unless you spend a fortune on couture or hand-made items). Colette and I collect vintage and we love every piece we own. If you're looking for some everyday items, estate sales must top the list. Then try Ebay. There are plenty of vintage dealers around but you'll pay top dollar. There are also some quite good reproductions available if you want the style without the true heritage. Here are some pictures. One is backstage with Rock'n'Roll legend, Lloyd Price, at our Rhythm Riot festival. Colette's purple dress is by Ceil Chapman, who was Marilyn Monroe's favorite designer. It's a valuable item. And beautiful.
  5. Here's my 2 cents worth... Overdrive does make a huge difference, but can be expensive. The best value change has to be dual exhausts. Relatively cheap and simple but lets the engine breathe so much better.
  6. Welcome to the Forum. Your 42 is great. And it's fantastic to have that family history to go with it. Good luck with the car.
  7. ...and I believe the last of 'the big three' to offer a vacuum-powered top. It was certainly the last with a 'victoria top' (no rear side windows).

  9. Anyone have that picture as a standard 10x8 photo? If so, I'd love to get a copy, or scan. Thanks. Robin.
  10. Great call. I've done it now. R.
  11. Thanks Guys, Looks like the Bernbaum route will be the one of least resistance. Appreciate your help. R.
  12. Hi guys, the shifter knob on my car has developed a big crack. My guess is that it was screwed on too tightly and has now succumbed to the stress. Does anyone have a NOS or re-pop shifter knob for a P15 that they would sell? Or can you point me in the right direction? Thanks. Robin.
  13. I believe the ship and lettering should be red, but the indented line should not, so I think Steveplyms caps are correct.
  14. Hi William, Sorry to hear that your Chrysler failed the MOT. Your car should not have failed the MOT on the single rear brake light or lack of washers. I'd suggest you need to find a testing station that has more knowledge of old cars - or find the correct legislation and take the car back and show them the rules. I have actually put extra brake lights into the rear lamps, so all three work together. I just feel safer with that set-up. I can recommend an MOT station if you need to find one. Good luck. Robin.
  15. Hey Carl, Welcome aboard. That Dodge will make a fabulous car for you and will be worth the effort. You'll learn a lot along the way and will be justifiably proud of your Dodge when you drive it. Good luck. Enjoy the journey. Robin (UK)
  16. OK. So I get to organize an event with great cars, fantastic bands and beautiful women removing their clothes. It's a tough life, but someone has to do it!!! Here's my wife, Colette, with two of the burlesque dancers who performed at this year's festival....
  17. Hey Randy, There is a thread on the UK NSRA Forum that has some great pictures: http://www.nsra.org.uk/newforum/showthread.php?t=18480&highlight=riot also, some video on YouTube. This one (from 1.53 onwards) shows the cars driving around the festival site - a lot of British cars can also be seen in this clip: This is a scanning view of some of the cars parked at the festival site (you can see that we do get sunshine, sometimes): Here's another scanning view of the static display: And here's a video of one of the bands: All the best. Robin.
  18. Robert, I know this P15 is in your heart and I sure understand how you feel. Take all the help you can get, but make sure you watch and learn from those who help you out. Also, the advice on this Forum is almost always good - use it wisely. I taught myself to work on my old car (a 1954 Ford Consul) when I was a 19 year-old student with no funds to pay for a much-needed head gasket replacement. I invested in some basic tools and a workshop manual and did the job myself, by the side of the road. The feeling of satisfaction was immense! The cost saving was essential. I would echo the other advice and suggest that the job must be done right - no point replacing a head gasket when valves are a problem because you'll only have to do the work again. But please don't let the comments about who should own the cars upset you - that's just one guy's opinion and I don't think he meant to offend you. Perhaps it was a clumsily worded observation but I think he was saying that some knowledge is essential in order to stay out of trouble and (in my experience) you must know the language to speak when you are talking to mechanics who might be out to try to earn a fast buck. They can easily spot a lack of know-how and will talk you into paying for work that may not be the correct course of action. Good luck. I really hope you get the old girl sorted quickly. All the best. Robin.
  19. Hi Guys, I just got the official pictures of the Rhythm Riot from our photographer - over 2500 images, so they'll take a bit of editing!!! Looked through them quickly and found these, from the Sunday parade. That's Deano's lovely green P15 2-door sedan, recently imported from New York. There's a 41 Plymouth Staff car and a 54 that I'd not seen before. Also a couple of shots of Colette and me in the convertible. Sadly, I haven't got any pictures of the beautiful P15 business coupe that was also at the festival. The parade goes through the ancient town of Rye and it's always an amazing sight to see the American cars driving down the medieval high street. The day sure was COLD! Hope you like the pix. R.
  20. Tony, I love those films. Thanks for posting the link. But, Lee, there was plenty of primer in the day - maybe not at a show'n'shine custom meeting, but certainly on the strip. Check this movie: Agree with you on the lack of tattoos, though. R.
  21. Hey Todd, It was just an example. Try 'hot rod' or 'main street' or 'convertible'... the list is endless. Here's a nice shot. I think the car is a Chrysler convertible.
  22. Hi Guys, If you have several hours to spare over the Holiday period, you might like to trawl around the picture archive that's been released by LFE magazine, via Google. Here are few pictures I've already found, and this link will show you the amazing images thrown up just by searching 'Auto Show': http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&safe=active&q=auto+show+source%3Alife&btnG=Search+Images You can access much bigger pictures on the web. HAVE FUN! Robin.
  23. My friend sent me a link to this thread... Nice work. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=315555&showall=1
  24. Hey! Another UK P15! Welcome aboard. Where are you? Let's see pix and get more info. Loads of guys on here with great information and advice, and a handful of active UK owners. You can PM me, or email Robin@RockTheJoint.com if you want to get in touch. All the best. Robin (P15 convertible)
  25. A friend in California sent me a link to his Flickr photo album from a show in San Jose. I found a couple of VERY nice P15s in there.... http://www.flickr.com/photos/pro_photo/3051732148/in/set-72157609776891111/
