  1. Does anyone have pics of this process they could share? BloodyKnuckles
  2. Tim, are you going to be there this weekend? If so don't miss the Dixie Fried, Drive-invasion at the Starlight 6 drive-in. We'll be there. BloodyKnuckles
  3. I like them both. It's nice to see a DeSoto with an original grill. They have been raped for too long!! But the other grill says true kustom. With your chopped top I think it lends itself well. As for the radiator, I have a '53 Chrysler 331 radiator. What engine is in yours? Where would the inlet and outlet be located? Not sure of the condition, whether or not it leaks. Let me know this info. BTW...Kudos to James. It doesn't get much better than that!! BloodyKnuckles
  4. Probably That stuff is extremely volatile.
  5. After reading through everyones response I'm almost embarrassed to share my MPGs. When I did my 5000+ round trip to Vegas from Charlotte, NC we checked numerous times and we came up with 26 MPG. My car has a tired old engine that knocks, leaks oil, a '54 OD from Asche, stock rearend, 500lbs of tools and parts, 400 lbs of men, 150lbs of luggage and guitars. We checked numerous times and sometimes it was better and sometimes it was worse but I am sure it gets great mileage. BloodyKnuckles
  6. I am laughing my butt off right now!! BloodyKnuckles
  7. Yeah, I wasn't able to make it as an adult actor so I decided to do the next best thing. Just kidding. Looks as if they are off to a good start. The cars really need to be finished with paint. They are not bad at all. "The Original" BloodyKnuckles
  8. Rust and woodgrain but will be chromed as will be the garnish moldings. Thanks. We don't plan on keeping the door panels but we'll see. BloodyKnuckles
  9. Thanks Don and dodgepu1946. The dual master cylinder is for the brakes and clutch. Neato:rolleyes: The brakes don't work but the clutch does. I'll figure it out someday. I may try that e-bay thing...could be good. I'll contact Hudsonator. Thanks for the heads up. BloodyKnuckles
  10. Thanks alot guys. Don, my man Jonny Thunders is making my headliner from scratch. He said he could make a headliner very quickly if he has the original one for a template. If you need one made let me know and I'll get you a price from him. BloodyKnuckles
  11. I just picked this up. The gentleman who sold it to me told me a cool story about it. He said the original owner used it as an icecream truck for a long time. It had a canvas tarp and a cooler in the bed. His company's name was "Mickey's Icecream". He sold Mickey Mouse Icecream. One day a gentleman came up and told the icecream vendor that he needs to chage the name of his icecream. The vendor said why and the gentleman said because he owns Mickey Mouse. It was Walt Disney hisself. After a long, very friendly discussion in the front of the truck Walt was on his way. I thought it was a pretty cool story, nothing special but cool. I've been looking for a long time for a good parts fetcher/ farm truck/ daily driven work truck. It needs brakes, fuel system redo, new wireing, and very little body work. I plan to finish it as a nice vintage work truck with a few hopped up items. We'll see how it all goes. A few pics to share; BloodyKnuckles
  12. I was so sick and tired of having such a beat interior that something had to give. So my lovely wife said she would cover the door panels, kick and rear panels and also the package tray. I made all new boards from my originals. She added the foam and material. Now this was to be temporary until I gathered up enough moolah to have a professional do it. So then I met Marlin, who I call "Jonny Thunders". He tore apart my seats and rewired a few of the popped springs then he covered them with gold and black vinyl. He did exactly what I wanted and I couldn't be any more happy. I'm taking it to him this week to finish the wind lacing and headliner that will be gold with black piping. I have to come up with an idea for carpet as I haven't really seen too many cars that I actually like the carpet. Oh well, we'll figure it out. Here you go; Getting closer.. BloodyKnuckles
  13. Uncle-Pekka, Those two cars you described are ours. I really appreciate the compliments from you and from everyone else. Thanks again, BloodyKnuckles
  14. Well the 2nd Annual Anti-BBQ, GearHead Get-Together went great!! ...a little history on the event... My wife, Heather and I moved into our house about 2 years ago and decided to have a few gearhead friends over to celebrate my birthday. Well as we all know it seems as BBQ is an overused term here in the south. Every party or happening is BBQ related and I got a bit overwhelmed. I don't mind BBQ but I don't like southern style. So we decided the first year to call the event "The 1st Annual Anti-BBQ...North VS South". We had both northern and southern style BBQ. Well the food was awesome. We had about 40 cool cars, a few bikes and a bunch of people. For the next few months after the party we had many people request an invite to next years event. ...enough of the stupid history BS... This years event was large in scale to last years. We probably had close to twice as many cars and a hell of alot more people. We had a friend supply a drive-in movie screen and soundsystem playing music during the day and vintage hot rod movies at night. We also had fireworks at the end of the evening. Instead of birthday cake we kept with the "North VS South" theme and had Dunkin' Donuts and Krispy Kreme battle it out!!! MMMMMM donuts!! I am sharing this story with all of you because we appreciate and respect the hell out of our friends and friends are what keep this awesome hobby of ours strong. So this the least we could do. I hope you enjoy the pics as much as we enjoyed everyone... Yes that's our very own Bill Willard! BloodyKnuckles
  15. You, You, You're Good (..in my best Robert DeNiro voice)!! Looks great. Keep it going. You're a braver man than me. I seriously considered painting my whole car after the chop was complete but then I realized I wouldn't be able to enjoy my car. It would be down too long as I plan on a few more body modifications. BTW...Your car looks more like my photoshopped pic than mine does, cool! BloodyKnuckles
  16. This may be a shot in the dark but are your front shocks too long by chance. You may not notice it on paved roads but once you hit the uneven and rough roads the shocks could be bottoming out causing the harsh vibrating you had described. Look to make sure you have plenty of up travel with your shocks. BloodyKnuckles
  17. You can definately weld up an redrill the holes. I picked up a sweet set of oval, 2-piece, brass, valve stems from Discount tire for about $5 each. They work great, easy to install and are re-useable. I've had my tires mounted for about 4 years and haven't had an issue yet. I would also use a poly-butel sealant on the rivets as said previously. Good luck BloodyKnuckles
  18. Arm rests are attached to the panel not the body. BloodyKnuckles
  19. Arthur, I'm not sure that you can puchase the plunger separately but I know a new rebuild kit with plunger included from NAPA is about $17. I have also heard of people turning the leather over and soaking them in oil to allow them to become flexible again and to operate correctly. Maybe this is an old wive's tale. Who knows? BloodyKnuckles
  20. James, Now I understand. You have better described things with your response. You have every right to disagree with me as Don put it, you definately know your vehicle. I personally never rode in a fluid drive car but I sure know that my wife's DeSoto with a 2 speed automatic is significantly slower from a dead stop than my Plymouth is but her car is heavier. Good luck with your transmission. BloodyKnuckles
  21. I had a similar problem when I first set up my triple carbs. I upped the size of the fuel line to 5/16" (I believe thats the size, it may be bigger...) I was having gas coming out of my carbs everywhere! I decided to put a pressure regulator on and set it at about 3lbs. All of my problems went away. It's been trouble free for about 4 years now. BloodyKnuckles
  22. James, I'm not sure what you expect from the fast second but even with a heavy car as yours you will be very pleased with the different gear. It's more on the lines of a normal, more modern, ratio. The biggest thing is that it will bring third within reach without taxing the engine after a shift from second. As many here know I really drive my car. It has the fast second. The car is a '51 2 door with over 600 pounds in the trunk and it moves just fine through the hills and mountains. I would seriously reconsider the fast second. You'll be very pleased. BloodyKnuckles
