  1. Just got my original Pilot house from the paint shop. This is the one I gave my son about 6 years ago and he is restoring it. Actually, he writes the checks and I am the free labor. They painted the cab roof and inside a copperish color and the lower half will be painted later a dark brown color. The firewall is already painted so I can set on the chassis and start wiring. The fun begins.
  2. I am heading to Elko MN next Saturday, I bought another Pilot-House there. Are you close or on the way there. I will burn across on WI-29.
  3. what year? I am not sure if they differ. I will probally have one for you and am fairly close for shipping.
  4. WOW! And I thought I was a dare devil back in the day. Thanks for sharing! Todd B
  5. I certainly did not intend to insult anyone when I commented on the low side boxes, I have never seen a low side box. Sorry Todd B
  6. I have never seen a low side, I actually thought Hanks was a fabricatd 2011 model box side. Very Interesting.
  7. Is there any pictures showing the difference in high & low sides, I am not sure if I have all low or high sides. I have 4- 1/2 tons and they are all the same height.
  8. Merle, I went down and looked to make sure and they both are 1/2 tons.
  9. What I noticed is on the 49, just behind the fender there is a removable panel to grease the zerks. On the 52 they bumped the metal out so there is no removable panel. Merle disappointed me. He has been the Pilot house go-to man for years. Oh well, I still respect him and think he is the man right uder God when it comes to trucks. Merry Christmas to all, and I hope my wife caught my hints about a dodge tow truck in Minnasota. Todd B
  10. not what noticed. but I will check when its daylight.
  11. I think it would be helpful if when you click on a thread and to the right it tells where the member lives. I notice some do and some don't.. I have no idea if that is possible but I enjoy knowing where people live as I am reading a thread. Todd B
  12. welcome. I don't want to sound like a putz, but, where is "down the shore"?
  13. I was just down stacking wood near my not restored trucks {my wife thinks they are for parts}. and I noticed a difference in the 1/2 ton box sides from the years 49 to 52. Any one know the difference in the sides? I have seen these trucks side by side for years and I never noticed this before. Todd B P.S. Merle, give the rest of them a 3 hour headstart.
  14. Thank you Bob, Todd B
  15. I am looking at a G model truck and I looked in my books to find out F, G & H are all the same tonage. What makes them different?
  16. I must be cheap, I think $2500 is way out of line. I have bought 8 pilot house trucks and the most I have ever paid was $500 for my semi tractor. I paid $200-$300 for the others and drove 3 of them home. I understand scrap price is worth close to $700 but I seem to find the trucks that people want them to be saved instead of scrapped. As far as the truck in the pictures, depending on what level of restoation you plan on doing, could turn into a money pit. For me its my "bad habit" and thats what I enjoy spending my money on. I also understand different areas prices will vary. But I certainly would not pay more than $1000. My 2.5 cents.
  17. I am envious, we are a few weeks away from setting the cab on my original b1b. I can't wait to see it
  18. the guy who wired my trucks always grounds the cab to the frame and the engine to the frame. He wired fire trucks his entire life and thats what they do. I believe with electrical you can never have to much ground.
  19. merry christmas to all. And I love the tool idea.
  20. I love the color and the horsepower. You may go broke buying tires.
  21. I noticed on the Ausi truck they have 4 brackets on the headliner, all my trucks only have 1 in the center. Plus everything thing is a mirror image. Were Ausi trucks made there or in the US and sent over? If they were made here it explains how the dyslexia thing started.
  22. Is that an aftermarket deal or original?
  23. When we restored my first b1b in 1980 I built a glovebox out of plywood, lined the outside with 1/2" foam and the inside with "shag" carpet. It worked great for a built in beer cooler. I could stand 25 cans of beer on end in the cooler/glovebox. That cooler went through many beers all through high school.
  24. Whats the thing behind the outside door handle??
  25. I did not care for Roberts, once it gets humid outside they warp in every direction. I made my second one out 1/4" plywood and sprayed a clear coat finish on it. It works perfect.
