  1. Use the search function! To answer I think you can put it in qoutes and it will return the whole phrase. Bact to the commonly asked questions. Could we start a section with stickeys of well written 'how to's and with pictures (because i dont like to read). So that way its easy to find, in the how to section.
  2. A slide hammer worked well for me when I did it last month to replace a bad bearing.
  3. If you have a garage to store it for free till you get through your ruff patch. Prehaps offer your services to fellow enthouthests to prehaps make up the money you would have gained w/ the sale. Thats how I got through college w/o needing to sell. Best of luck to you and your beautiful flattie.
  4. I remember watching a movie on Tucker some 15 years or so ago. After a littile imdb search "Tucker: The Man and His Dream" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096316/ Its worth a watch if you are intrested. I remember a part about the turning headlight acting as a rudder on one of the test cars. Maybe I'll dust off the old VHS and watch it again.
  5. A jack will make things alot easier. Geting it out wasnt hard I supported it with a sling that I tied around the support for the dash. Then transfered it to my shoulders when removing and letting down to the ground. Putting it back in was not as easy, basicly it was bench pressing it up while someone else put the bolts in. If I do it again there will be a jack involved. Best of luck fixing your leak and clutch.
  6. Just a heads up to anyone needing a rear wheel bearing race. Make sure you have your part number with you. Whoever transposed the number into their book and computer system put it in wrong. The part number should be 25821 but they have it as 28521 witch is a much larger race. The man at the desk was as helpful as he could be but i still had to run home and check the part number. It will be in tomorrow at 7am.
  7. When I was young and stupid I cut mine up so a paper filter would fit in it. Later found out oil is a really good filter. Prob why k&n filters have you wet them with that little bottle of oil. Although it prob made it a bit less restricted but I'd like to go back and stop myself. So I guess the point is good luck with your search.
  8. The later I would say. I have a '48 and it starts w/ P15 on the block.
  9. id gladly buy it from whomever had the rights if they produced it still and it was resonably priced. I would be very intrested in something of that nature if it was started. I dont really have any old resourses to share currently.
  10. Is is necessary to do any sealing after the paint is applied?
  11. That has always been a dream of mine. to get some pics of my car next to some WWII vintage aircraft. Better yet own a vintage aircraft and take a picture of my toys. Thanks for the pictures, very nice.
  12. Is the car stored in Tonawanda? I just moved mine to Buffalo at the beginning of the summer. It looks like you have a long road ahead of you. If you need a hand feel free to shoot me a pm. Tom
  13. Moral of that story: keep an eye on your mechanic...oh and keep your receipts.
  14. Advance Auto is where I rented mine. I tried Auto Zone and was immediately told the that no such tool exists.
  15. I am in need of the brake adjustment tool also. But being an engineer $475 - $1000 will get me a lot of tries at building an effective replacement. Is there anyone in the community that is currently making a tool for sale that effectively does the job as simply as the ammco 1750?
  16. Thanks for the tip. Thats one of those things that doesnt occure to you untill its to late. That would be more eciting then the burr I had in one of my cylinders that caught the pistion.
  17. In high school a friend of mine got his 46 plymouth with no modifications up to 90mph. Although it took a mile and a half to slow it down to get off the highway.
  18. Thanks for all the advice that everyone has offered. When I get to the frame up resto I'll replace all of the lines and rebuild the master and cylinders. For now I just like to get it back on the road for my summer driver. As it has been sitting all throughout college. I'll just have to go out and pump the brakes every once in a while when it sits and hope that will fight off the rust. Thanks again. T
  19. I am over hualing the brakes on my '48 plymouth. Both passenger side drums are leaking fluid. When I disambled the cylinders there was alot of rust on the inner bore. Is there any methoid to preventing rusting and subsquent failure of the piston seal? I have been looking into the possible switch to DOT 5 fluid. What are some issues that I would encounter with the swap?
