I like those ideas, either paint or paint pen of different composition than the base for easy cleanup. As far as color, White on Black IS the correct standard? I notice most of my knobs after cleanup are Black on Brass metal, one is Copper metal. I am only guessing that the entire embossed shell was painted black and the paint in the lettering did not come out in the cleaning process. I did soak all of them in paint remover but the letters did not come loose. All of the photos in my reference books are black and white, these are the only original photos I have. As bad as they are.

Today's piddling around results, painting, decal application. Not using this filter, using the JC DELUXE, but since I was at it, probably put this on EBay once the project is finished. But not until, I've learned the hard way, nothing goes away until its all buttoned up. -
So that does work, maybe not with two shoulder surgeries ☹️

Got done sorting through all my dash knobs, and picked out the winners..... Need to buff up the chrome on all of them and then repaint. Have been trolling around looking for information on repainting them. Currently have seven and should have the last two next Monday. It is obvious that these cannot be disassembled, or at least not disassembled and then reassembled, anything can be torn apart. Plan is to mask the chrome outer shell and do a light primer and then two coats of black, probably an appliance paint, with a sanding in between to fix any surface irregularities, and a quick bake in a low temp oven for curing. Followed by some thinned out white model paint to 'flow-fill' the lettering. Seems safer than trying to do the hand painting route, not being an artist. I am wondering if anyone has been this route, my big concern is having the centers still rotate after painting, anything to do, to be sure this is not an issue?

Previously on "FINALLY - My 1948 B-1-D Build Thread, 33 Years Later" Got the canister all painted, still working on a decal; still not sure what to do about the mounting bracket, the one I have is definitely not correct compared to other photos, If any one has any good photos and dimensions for the correct one I would appreciate it, do not have a good shot of the back; And today finished the decal application and a coat of clear gloss, happy with the results..... Applying a coat of clear after an item has been sitting is always a "Gosh, I hope this don't bubble moment"! ALL GOOD ? -

Went through all the brake cylinders this AM, disassembled, honed, cleaned and reassembled. I think I will be okay with them, we'll see if there are any leaks. the one from the right rear was the worst (same wheel that had the rusty drum). Also need to replace one of the cups, has a small nick in it. -

Well Dang! Was looking in the wrong place, looked through the parts manual and found... Do not like the options, guess it could be worse..... My Willys had 4.11s and would climb a wall if it could keep traction, had to put an overdrive in it just to not get run over on the highway, oh well just go around me. ? Brake cylinders tomorrow. -

Was looking to find the ratio of the rear end, this was the only markings I can find, wonder if they mean anything to anyone, may need to pull the cover and count. Also decided to clean and check the drums, I had put a thick coat of grease on them 30 some years ago, for the most part they look okay, one rear has some rust to emory cloth out. The brake slave cylinders do not look like they have stood the test of time all that well, knocked one of the rear pistons in and saw some rust, will need to remove all of them and inspect, possibly replace/repair I cannot for the life of me explain what has caused this wear ring on the inside of one of the rear drums, there are no innards, just wheel cylinders? Nothing on the inside has any wear marks, it has to be recent (rolling in and out of the shop) or it should be rusty? It also looked like there were marks in the grease. -

Started work on the Fresh Air Intake, Dismantled the firewall flapper Cleaned up all the parts and cleaned up the grill intake got the flapper painted silver and the housings black Need to find a screen for the intake and the piece that goes in the cab between the firewall and heater to direct the air through the heater core. Thought I had all the parts, but one step forward, two steps back. -
Thanks, I was thinking about that size, of course I have whole rolls of 1/2" and 1", time to do some digging in the scrap boxes as far as rivets go, Dad left me well supplied with a few lifetime's supply of them from UAL.

Well, just when you thought you were off to the races, Found out I am missing a part, will search, or re-create..... Once again, wondering if anyone has dimensions? ?
-
Started to clean up the fresh air intake today, on the grill end, my guess is there is a screen to curtail the intake of bugs. Probably using these clips? Does any one know the correct grid size and proper attachment? Still got a bit to go on this piece. Also got the flapper dismantled to de-rust and paint.

I guess one look at the valve stem hole would have answered that question ?

Some good information, especially on the safety aspect. Does look pretty straight forward and I like the Dyna Beads, for perpetual tire balancing - never heard of them.

Thanks for the replies, so flaps that's what they're technically called. There's a Les Schwab down in the Springs I'll check with them, yep thinking of going big lugs in the back straight tread in the front. May just try doing them myself, thanks JB as usual you've sent lots of information, too much to glean through tonight. I'll do some reading in the morning.
