Reg.........the grille was scotch brite with a gray pad. The bumper was painted with a chrome paint..........yea!! chrome paint no less. It really isn't chrome but it goes well with the bumper. I put the bolts for the bumper behind the bumper and welded them in. Then when it is mounted ,you don't see the caps from the front.

well, except for the pistriping and putting in the front glass , my wagon is running and will be on the road shortly..........FINALLY!!!

Ok............ I can finally say the car is basically done. The 2 colors are on and we just put a gallon and a half of clear on. Tomorrow we start colors sanding and buffing. By the end of the week start putting it back together. The pics don't really do the turquoise metallic any justice but what can you do .

Sorry.......after reading what you said I thought you were talking about a chrome strip in the fenderwell............Now I see you said the WELTING!! The welting has been scotch brited to allow it to accept paint. It will be the same color as the body. I got it from Julianos and they said if you took off the shine ,paint will adhere.

In taping anything I always start with 1/4"tape to start. This is because you can turn the tape into tighter corners. Then go over with a wider tape till you cover what you have to. If the chrome strip is held on with sheet metal screws, it would be so much easier to just take them off.

I have finally put paint on my 50 Plymouth wagon. We have been working on it since early last December. The colors are a 60 Plymouth color from a 60"s color chart. the bottom is going to be the turquoise metallic. The top is Oyster white. We have been blocking for what seem weeks but now we are ready to close things up and wait for nice weather so I don't have to run the heater continuously. As soon as we get the car done I will post the finished pics. But for now........we wait.

I finally got my butt in gear and have started to do my 1950 Ply. wagon paint job myself, and the big help from a good friend. I took a week off at the beginning of Dec. to get started with it. We started to block sand and finish imperfections in the body. We got much done the whole week. Then since I work partime during the week and am off every Friday, we have been working 4-5 hours every Friday since then. We did spray filler primer and block sanded for what seems a lifetime, but the body is so straight I could do the car in black. I am not doing it black!!! I picked out 2 colors from a 1959 color chart that I got online. I am going to two tone the car and the bottom will be a turquoise metallic and the top is oyster white. The white is hard to explain in color unless you see it as it's not eggshell or off white, it's oyster white. Then I have a buddy who does pinstriping and will have him do a separation stripe between the 2 colors and also have him do some old school Von Dutch stuff on the hood nose and rear tailgate. I hope to get pics in the near future but my arms are sore from sanding to hold up the camera...ha ha

I bought my wife a new Dodge Journey this past Sept. It also has the battery in under the front fender. Her old 2002 Stratus was also like that.

Proper Primer For Storage of Sheet Metal Parts
chopt50wgn replied to Bingster's topic in P15-D24 Forum
Usually any type of paint should work to prevent rust. A lot depends on how much moisture is in the area that the parts will be stored. I like epoxy primer because you can use body filler over it and it will never absorb moisture. You have to be careful with some primers as they can and will absorb moisture from the air. -
I just took my 50 Ply suburban grille to a polisher. Mine had some minor scratches and small dings which he took out with no problem. He then tried to polish it...........it just started to blotch as he polished. He did say it is stainless but it has a light chrome over it. He asked me if it was ok to give it a satin look. I said no problem. He took and rubbed it with fine Scotch Brite pads and it looks great. I don't have any chrome on the car and the front bumper is going to be painted the same color as the car so this look of satin finish suits the look I am going for.

I sold my pro street 66 Dart about 8 years ago. I know how you feel. I did it mainly to help finance my 50 Ply wagon build. It's hard to see them go but when you get the present build done, you feel better. I loved my pro street but as I got older, I do like comfort and being able to hear the stereo and talk inside without yelling.

I used SMS Fabrics a few years back. They had a headliner for my 50 Ply wagon. They even made one to match the black vinyl I used in the rest of the interior.

I have a Heidts IRS in my 50 Plymouth wagon. It was not hard to put it in between the frame rails. Lots of measuring and getting centerlines correct. Along the the Fayman front stub, it rides like a new car.

I actually found these for my 50 Ply Suburban wagon on Ebay awhile ago. They were a perfect fit too.

Should I coat inside of 48 DeSoto gas tank?
chopt50wgn replied to MarcDeSoto's topic in P15-D24 Forum
If you do decide to clean the tank out............DO NOT PUT GRAVEL IN IT!!!.............use a piece of chain to help scour the inside. I would do the chain thing and then look inside with a light to see. If it looks ok then no way I would use a sealer. I have heard stories of the seal breaking loose over time and then floating around in small sheets clogging things up. -
V belts should be flush with the groove in the pulley for proper operation. I have seen some belts that stick up in the pulley or that sit below the top of the groove. And those are not seated correctly and will either squeal or fly off.

You know ,have been a member here for many years and have never met in person anyone from the site. Would be a cool to meet up and am sorry we both missed each other at Eastwood. The show was bigger than last year ,they said it was about 500 cars. They were turning them away before lunch, no where to put them. The last Pottstown show will be the Labor day event. Weather pending, it should be a big one this year.

If you're talking about the gray primered wagon, that's mine. I haven't posted here in quite some time. I am getting ready to paint mine, 2 tone.....oyster white on the bottom, twilight turquoise on the top. I also just put on new black chrome 5 spoke American wheels. I hope to get some pics soon. Really like how Don is doing his wagon and using the new Hemi. I have been following his build and I remember the time it does take. He is doing a great job and I want to see it when it's done.
