  1. For anyone who remembers my post about my fuel pump problem I just found out why it occurred. A quick background. I have a 58 truck engine in my 52 Coronet. I got the engine out of a 51 Coronet so it had the correct ancillary components to work correctly. The only thing missing was the fuel pump. I installed the AC588 I’ve always used and had problems for about a year. The solution was a different pump and the reason is that the camshaft is a different part number. I just wanted to inform others to save them from the aggravation I went through.

  2. Painted the back of the cab higher than the front of the bed. Made the power brake mount. Will clean it up and paint it after it is bolted onto the frame. Ray J.

  4. After temporary mounting of the front fenders, let's make it 2" more drop in the front, and I will leave the rear as-is for now. Further lowering may have to come from a Lexus specific lowering kit. The ride as it sits right now looks fairly level for a stock stance. But I still have the issue of the elevated front windshield. Another 2" drop in front will give it a rake and close the seat elevating that is needed. Also liked how the front track is falling within the fender edge! John

  5. Thanks Veemoney, I was hoping that the body would bring it down more, at least in the back, but it pretty much settled to where I had mocked it up at the rear fender, and didn't close the gap like I had hoped. But then I moved the bumpers today and remembered how heavy they were! The dimensions I mentioned are the minimums I desire and it will be okay if it drops a bit further. I'm a low rider kinda guy. Plus, I need to get the front windshield in line with my vision. Even with that, I will probably have to raise the seats 2" to make it work!

  6. Built a tool yesterday to assemble my lower control arm and torque the lower inner control bar bushings on the 40. Heres what i did. I took a good known front suspension from a 51 desoto. Measured the 51 lower control arms and control arm bar as an assembly. i found the measurements matched exactly from left hand to right hand control arms. I felt it was a safe bet to make a jig from this. Once I transferred my completed jig over to the 40 control arm I found that these old arms had been cranked in without a jig in the past (1/8 - 1/4" approx). I used a floor jack to spread the arms and install the jig. Torqued the control arm bushing to 150ft lbs. Life is good.

  8. Well, that was a longer repair than I had initially imagined. But the car -- it runs, it rolls forwards and backwards, it stops, it no longer spews fluid from every system. The fluid drive had to go to the repair shop three times before success. Details later, but it's a pretty good feeling to have it accomplished. Number of non-running cars in the household is now once again back to zero.

  9. Been slow this time of year .... I have all 4 new tires and hubcaps on. I wired up the turn signals today and have all lights working. Still have a few things to put back together in the cab.... heater switch, cigar lighter. ... I have a CB radio and a am/fm radio to install .... seats need to go back in .... just all stupid little stuff. I never did finish bolting all the fenders down and aligning the doors to fenders .... if that is even possible. I'm getting really really close to finish this thing up and drive it .... then pull the engine apart and do rings and valves. I have ran this engine for long periods of time and it quit smoking ... then let it sit for a year and it starts to smoke again next time started. I feel I need to give it a long drive in the country and see if it stops burning oil .... I feel this time it will not and will need to tear it down. I still have to give it a chance. .... Been a long haul to get this far, soon will be reporting first drive.

  10. It's the final month! Get it built or get it on trailer, it don't really matter! Well appreciate it either way! If you don't have one to bring, come on down anyway!! It all for the fun! 48D
