Successfully returned home after 1035 trouble free highway miles. Running 62 to 65 indicated on the highways. Actually passed a few cars in Canada (100 kph speed limit) Border crossing delays nearly caused overheating both ways 210 doesn't give you much leaway. Arrived on Wed afternoon and attended the group gather at Walter P's museum. Recommend it to those who visit the area. Thursday we went to the Ford as they call it now. Lots of interesting stuff on display there. Met up with Bob and Wanda, Don and Lisa and Bob's friend Bob at the museum. Thursday night we ordered pizza and had a gab fest then looked at the cars beginning to gather. Friday the group toured the old car plants on a bus and Don and Lisa and my wife and I took another look at Walter P's place. We made a stop at the Cranbrook site but decided not to stay as we would be fighting rush hour on the way back to the hotel. So we went back to the hotel and rested up for our Tailgate party.

We had a good feast(with Iron Chef Mark A doing the culinary duties) and met some new folks interested in modifying their flatheads, guess we just attract the malcontents, rebels and neredo wells) Much discussion on intakes and possibilities. How does dual throttle body injection (from a 2.2 mopar 4 banger sound?) these are a closed loop deal that need only an O2 sensor to do their thing. Probably would need 12v neg and an electric pump.

Show on Saturday with lots of pretty Plymouths on display. Pictures later.

Had a very nice 35 Plymouth manufatured in Sweden. Car was shipped over by the owner who was atending the show, and the Meadowbrook concurs which was on Sunday, and then was going to spend a few weeks touring in the Plymouth.

Saturday night the Hotel was taken over by the T, T; and G ball. (Tramps, Trollups and Guttersnipes Ball) Apparently a group hosts a party which they stage at hotel pools and it attracted some intersting folks. Those of the purple spiked hair, tattoos, and skimpy clothing pursuasion.

We packed up and were on the road 7 am Sunday. Stopped to have lunch in Burlington Canada with Phil and his wife. (40phil41) They took us on a short tour of lake side Burlington and over the Low bridge to the QEW which was packed with traffic and making about 20 MPH. We got off found our way to Downtown Niagara falls, and came across the Rainbow Bridge back to the states. Once back on the interstate we were home in three hours.

Had a great time. Two events scheduled for ext year one in Wisconsin in the spring and one in Maryland in the fall. Mark your calanders now and make plans to join us.

Posting pictures shortly.

I know Ed and his dad left. They were hooked up with a few POC people from the chapter here. I'm surprised he didn't take his laptop with. Wayne P.

We really enjoyed visiting with Greg and his wife. Their Plymouth is super fast :-). Sounds like we missed a great POC/P15-D24 meet.

Yes we did make the aquaintence of Ed, his father and some of the rest of the Minnesota group. Ed was a judge so he made it to our tailgate party just before it rained on Friday night. He and Mark were tied up all day on Sat doing their judging duties. Then they went to the banquet Sat night. The banquet must have gotten a case of Chinese disease( Dragon A$$) as it didn;t let out till about 11:15.

Don Smith came over to the show lot in his Desoto Suburban (Darn those ar long) and we chatted with him for a bit.

On Saturday while the banquet was going on we went out with the group to a BBQ place then took a partial cruise up Woodward Ave back to the hotel.

It goes withourt saying that there are a lot of Car nuts in Detroit.

Friday at the tailgate we had a visit from HAMB member Denise (Hotrodladycruiser) in her neat Olds convertible. The Olds group was in town doing their thing at another hotel. She came by meet the group and recommeded the BBQ joint.

Bob Van Buskirk garnered enough points so that Pink Thing, their Santa Rosa Coral and Beige 54 wagon took a first place in class. Congratulations Bob and Wanda.

Next year the spring meet in in Minnesota, and the fall is scheduled for Westminister (no dogs) Maryland. Just south of the PA border near Gettysburg. (I know a great place to get fanbelts nearby) So mark you calendars, and plan on attending. Your car does not need to be POC ready to have a good time. So the maryland meet should attract Jim Yergin, Joe Flannagan, Rodney, and Chet B, Maybe we can talk Frank Mc Mullen and a couple of others as well. You guys from New England listening??????

Not often you see 3 ZEN masters together. Greg and I have met up several times. First time for me and Greg to meet up with young Ed. I was as impressed meeting him in person as I am with his postings. He is the future of the POC. Not that the POC is my favorite as they do original stuff and I do not. But Ed has my vote as the next National president. He knows his stuff but has to learn a tad of finess when torquing small electrical connections. I know he will chime in with the rest of the story. Had a great time in Detroit. More pictures to follow.

Back to the cars. For the custom guys' date=' take a look at Ed's grill. I'm pretty sure that Ed will eventually install all the stainless and put it back to original. However, that makes for a nice looking custom grill just the way it is.:) Reminds me of the old custom Bar Grills.[/quote']

I think his grill looks like crap. But he did drive his car past the end of his driveway. He actually drove further than I did to get there.

Greg,

The fall show next year in Maryland sounds good to me. Hopefully by then I won't have to plan on getting there in 100 yard increments. Do you know the date to mark on the calendar?

Made it home safe and sound. I havent done the math yet but it looks like about 1900 miles round trip. I had some charging issues a week before we left and just before we left some non starting issues(key turned but engine wouldnt turn over). Also while on the way started blowing head light fuses after about 2 minutes of turning them on. While there I discovered the wires on the amp gauge were loose. As Don mentioned I had in issue with tightness and snapped one stud off the amp gauge. Luckily a swapper had a new one for sale and I had it put in by sat afternoon. Getting those wires tight completely fixed the charging and starting issues but I seem to still have a headlight issue. Who needs them in daylight anyway right???

Contrary to what many thnk the POC does accept modifications, your car just won't score high if it has a lot of changes to (if scoring is your thing, you just needed to stay in the lobby until ther urchins came back after 2:00)I get along with Earl B Jr. the technical director, very well. He has told me numerous times your car looks and sounds great. The approach I have taken, is, each has their opnion. When they commented about the changes I made to my 49, I asked would it be better off crushed? Earles answer NO. The POC believes in preservation of the brand. I believe in preservation of the brand, with a few modifications. As a judge, (I am sure Ed saw similiar things) you would be surprised what you see and find on thier cars. Woody from Detroit Region (Show contact) has a 318 in his 54, Bob Kerico POC President has split exhaust on his 51, Bob Mitchell tech director of newer cars, glass pack mufflers on his 58. Carlon, who's 34 recieved best of show, makes adpaters for overdirve transimission, and after the show will put it back in his car so he can drive it. They had their cars judged and guess what they had points taken off for these changes. Greg & Don can confrim, our three cars catch a lot of attention and a ton of questions as to how we made the modifications we did, and how do the cars run now. Our Anwer GREAT! I let several POC dyed in the wool guys drive my 49, and all were very impressed. Actually how we caught several others attention is when Greg and I left the Chrysler Musuem ( one came up to me later and said, you and your car aren't normal) I told him I was normal , my car not quite normal and Greg abnormal. Bottom line EVERYONE SHOULD JOIN THEIR LOCAL POC Chapter, and join us in the parking lot next September in Maryland. We need to help preserve the Brand! The Iron Chef

Westminster Show is sept 23 - 26 2009

Headquarters hotel is Best Western Westminster.

only 319 miles for me hardly worth the trip.

Hosted by the Mid Atlantic region.

I don't have a local chapter, nor do I wish to start one.

Sounds like a good time was had by all.

Ed's coupe is looking better these days.....it just takes time (not to mention

effort) to get one in shape.

At least everyone was on the road and the cars ran well.

Were there a bunch of folks cruising Woodward early? I think someone

said the street has been kinda busy already.

I haven't seen the new interior Denise now has in the olds. I believe

it was done by a fellow in Texsas. Last year she had the top in place,

and that was progress. Reckon she'll be here in Joplin for the drags

in about 3 weeks.

Glad you made it home okay guys. Great pics.

It's really neat to see so many flatheads on the road and being driven long distances.

Mark, which way did you go up and back from the Lou to Detroit? See any good scenery?

Am I missing a joke here besides the obvious Norm one?

Lotsa Ill. folks there Steve you shoulda come up.

I should have, wished my car would have been completed, would have been an interesting journey. Have to see what happens next year, maybe I could make the MN meet.

I know the weather was probably a lot better up there in Michigan than it was down here this weekend. Too hot for man or beast down here right now.

Ed;

Next time you twist off one of the poles on your amp gauge keep in mind you are not dead on the road. Simply attach all wires to the same pole and you will be good to go only your amp gauge will not register.

Join the National POC, you outcast

Made the 595 mile trip straight back (did take a nap behind a Cracker Barrell in Gas City Indiana) ran great averaged 20 MPG at 60-65

I left Fort Wayne, Indiana at 3:30 this morning. I drove about 60 miles down I-69 and smelled gas. I was about to pull off and see if I had a problem but I then saw the sign "GAS CITY" next exit:cool:

Here is a shot of forum members cars

By the way, what did I do to attract attention when leaving Walter's place?

Am too normal got papers somewhere to prove it.

Not sure? Something gas related? One of the elevators was low on gas so I filled her up just before the door opened:eek:

That was my next step had that amp gauge not been available.
