I have a cousin who formerly worked as an undercover officer and even almost 20 yrs later, he has a permit to carry because of the people he put away. Never goes anywhere without it.

Fred, you guys have a hell of a job to do and I for one appreciate it alot. It's a different world behind those walls.

Tim, why do you find it necessary to carry? An incident in the past or just to be safe? Have you ever needed to use it or get ready to use?

The gangs are starting to get violent up here, something we aren't used to. Mostly they target their own but sooner or later someone will be caught in the crossfire.

Calgary is over a million now and that's Calgary proper, not including the outer bedroom communities and the booming times here mean there's a bunch of cash floating around...I never see any, but it's here.

I am not antil-gun per se as I own three rifles and one shot gun legally registered in Canada. Have no interest in owning a handgun. I don't worry much about violence up here although I do not have my head in the sand as I know it happens. However, when I travel in the US I am more concerned with knowing that many people are carrying guns, legally and illegally, and many of them have no proper training in their use and may or may not have the type of personality to use them appropriately. Don't get me wrong, I like travelling in the US but I have never understood the gun culture so prevalent there. To each their own and the world would be a boring place if we were all the same.

Pat..used to be I was on the road at all hours of the night...many miles from home...many miles from anywhere to be exact by the route I had to take..I keep my permit active..though I retired years ago and no longer on the road since I retired from the reserves...I have never had to use my gun...of that I am thankful, nor do I want to face the stiuation where I may have to have it..but should it happend..it is good to know it is there...where I live, yes the deep south, firearms are in about every home...and in this small community..we all look after the other persons property no matter day or night...I have been challenged by a neighbor in my own barn late one night cause he saw activity when I am usually in bed..I like that in my community.

Hi Rockwood,

I think that is what I said, gave the situation in the Netherlands and pointed out that there may be reasons for other locations to have different laws.

Not sure what drugs have to do with that. Lots of things can be said about the Netherlands and I probably would agree on a number as well. That is why I don't live there ;), just kidding.

Point I tried to make was that the guy would have been killed even if he had a gun. And that that would be the case in a lot of situations.

A hunting riffle in the country would be not a problem but have you seen any bears lately in New York or any other major city running arond attacking people?

Saw a documentary a while back on these attacks in a bus/metro. I think that would be the only moment a gun could stop a lunatic but even then there was a remark on the chances that people would shoot the wrong person in the chaos.

In short, I don't have the answer to the problem , but I don't think a gun for everyone would be best.

Just wish everyone to be safe !

Seems like the point of the advantage of having a concealed weapon is being missed here somewhat......if someone on that bus was carrying and the guy started stabbing the other guy and the person carrying the weapon (you have to be trained to do so most places, certainly here in Oklahoma) pulls his gun and after saying "stop", or "quit", or "halt", and the guy continues, the person carrying then goes ahead and shoots the guy....stops the incident from proceeding to everyone getting off the bus and giving him plenty of room while the guy goes about finishing off and beheading the poor bastard. I have a concealed weapons permit. Hope I never ever have to shoot anyone. But I wouldn't hesitate to do so to protect my life, or the life/well being of loved ones, or some innocent person. Of course a right such as this carries considerable responsibility, and judgment. Joel

i'd rather have my weapon and never need it, than to need it and not have it.

it is the unprepared person who regrets the most his lack of same.

there are very simply too many people who do not have the slightest hesitation to perform acts of violence on the innocent; while it is true that the unfortunate young man could not have defended himself, it is also true that the perpetrator may not have stopped at just him. would you rather try to tackle a violent, deranged man with a knife, or shoot him from a safe distance? i know my answer.

a Priest, a Nun, and a Rabbi walk into a bar...

the bartender looks up and says "Hey, what is this, some kind of joke?"

sometimes you just gotta laugh it off. otherwise they put a coat on you with really long sleeves.

This guy goes to the bar, the bartender asks?, "what'll it be", the guy says Pepsi, the bartender says:confused: , WHAT, Pepsi, you always drink Scotch.

The guy says, everytime I get drunk here, I hurl on myself:o , and the wife says if it happens again, :( she'll divorce me.

The bartender leans over the bar and says, listen this is what you do, you put a $50.00 bill in your front shirt pocket, then when you hurl on yourself, you tell the wife the guy sitting next to you at the bar hurled on you and then paid you $50.00 for the drycleaning.

The guy says , great idea, then proceeds to get drunk.

When he gets home, his wife confronts him, what did I tell you:mad: , your drunk, and you hurled on yourself again, he tells her the story of the other drunk hurling on him, she asks, why did he give you $100.00, he answers , he crapped in my pants too ................
