harleybraydin Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 I have a 50 plymouth special deluxe and I am trying to find coils to lower the front and inch or two. Anyone have an Idea where I can get them? Quote
greg g Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 espo springs and things. or just lop of a coil. Fatman makes droped spindles. Quote
harleybraydin Posted July 23, 2008 Author Report Posted July 23, 2008 The car is all original with drum brakes still. Even still 6 volt. Was not sure if there are drop spindles for drums. Do not really want to cut off a coil since it is all original. If I change coils I can change them back later. Quote
Arthur1947 Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 Drop down spindles will make for a better ride. If your front coils are old and sagging cutting them will just make it worse. Either way you would have to disassemble the front suspension. Might as well do it the right way with some drop downs. Best. ARTHUR Quote

Do not attempt to use Fatman dropped spindles with drum brakes! I did that on my car, and it increased the turning radius so much I couldn't get out of the driveway! I had to grind away portions of the brake backing plates to make the car driveable, and the turning radius is still much larger than stock. Not recommended!!!!!! Marty Quote
harleybraydin Posted July 23, 2008 Author Report Posted July 23, 2008 So I am back to square one. Anymore suggestions? Quote
Andydodge Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 I am running 1956 Ford front springs in my 1940 Oz Dodge(Plymouth chassis)........they have been in it for about 20yrs now, think I cut one coil, they were slightly thicker from memory........andyd Quote
Young Ed Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 I believe espo can custom make you a set of springs with the same spring rate as stock but in a shorter spring. Thats the way to go. Quote

Fireball Posted July 25, 2008 Report Posted July 25, 2008 Buy another set of used originals, and cut them. That way you still have a pair of originals unmolested for future. Quote
