OT strange question for you outdoorsmen in the group

Wayne's sample probably wouldn't clear customs..........................As for my nose, it will stay about 5 ft 6 inches away at all times.

And Shel I am a bit skeptical regarding the conclusion by the DEC folks. Wonder where they are getting their creds. I have also never seen deer signs of any kind that look like that, so MOOSE maybe??????

Shel the deer have been gorging 3 or 4 times a day on the mulberries. Hence the moisture, fiber, and seeds........my skepticism remains.

I am not sure about now but Wayne would have had no problem leaving a sample on Sunday morning....the moisture content would have been credited to your fine American beer.

I can't imagine that a deer left that behind, I have deer hunted for a long time and never come across sign like that before I would have trouble beliving a moose left it either but as for helping to identify the donor I am at as much of a loss now as when viewing the item live.

quote from a website:

"Of course, black bears are known for eating just about anything they can find in a garbage can, so even the unusual item may be found in bear scat. Black bear scat has been known to contain tin cans, pizza boxes, watches, tent screening, zippers, motorcycle chains and even crushed hubcaps!"

Tent screening seems to be a expected item, but motorcycle chains:confused:

Thats gotta hurt:eek:

Shel, might be the origin of scat dancing.

Way to go Greg...you get the funny post of the month award.

I dont however think its bear....it might be the Pope...or was he catholic?

Might be the Poop you say???

Hmmm... I'll take the pic to my hunter friends (lots of bear, moose, etc up here.... don't think its moose, more like hockey pucks....) and I'll get back to ya...

Greg,

I have seen this type of deer sign, especially at this time of year. The pellet form is typical when they are eating dry stuff....twigs and bark. When they have grass, leaves, and berries available the form becomes looser and less defined.

I have a picture if you want to compare, but have never figured out how to post one in here.

Rgds,

Tim

You do know there are bear in and around Onondoga County right? It's been all over the news this year. The DEC is considering expanding the bear hunting zones because of the problem.

Yea read that article but they were talking Southeastern corner abutting Madison county. Pretty rural as opposed to 4 miles outside the city of Syracuse. It would't suprise me, they are following the other wild life in becoming urbanized. We have seen a coyote run through the yard, deer are all over the place, foxes, turkeys etc all making a comeback in numbers and proximity. But We have purchased our bells and pepperspray.

I'm not talking about a recent article, since this spring bear sightings have been happening everywhere between the Finger Lakes where I live and the suburbs of Syracuse. I know two people who had one in their yard in Camillus. In another year or two they are going to be everywhere.
