Don Coatney Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 in the pack. But I did discover something today. In the past in order to check the operation of my brake lights I have rigged mirrors on my garage door so I could see the lights using my door mounted rear view mirors, used a hunk of wood wedged between the seat and brake pedal to activate the brake pedal so I could walk behind the car to see the lights, or used my wife (who is normally busy doing something not important to me but important to her when I need her services) to jump in the car and stomp on the brake pedal while I stand behind the car observing the brake lights. Well today I discovered something. I had my trunk lid open on my P-15 while I was sitting in the drivers seat. With the trunk lid open I could clearly see the trunk mounted brake light in the rear window rear view mirror. Duh:eek: Quote
55 Fargo Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 No kiddin Don LOL, I stumbled on this one myself when I had the brakelight sitch trouble a couple of months ago. It's amazing when we have these moments of clarity, this makes it easy for owners of our cars to check the stoplamp. BTW, don't you have brake lights in your taillights as well, cuz yours is a 12 volt negative system, does it still require some little circuitboardas mine does to allow the brakelight, the tail lights and the signal lights to function all togethert on the 2 rear lights, as well as the stop lamp, I have not done this with my car yet, but plan to buy the little circuit boards from a friend to make it work...........Fred Quote
Andydodge Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 Are you 6 or 12volt?...............lol........keep taking tha meds........lol.......andyd Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 I discovered that I could look at my package tray corners and see the brake lights. One night I was backing the coupe into the garage(when it would start) and I kept seeing this optical illusion. When I cut the car off it remained, after awhile it disappeared, I felt the car rolling back so I applied the brake and it reappeared. The great thing about the metal garage is you can see both right and left so you can test it before you leave. I also found that the park lights give off great light when you don't have a trunk light. Mine give off a great light at night, we have used it at parks and cruzin's. Quote
John Mulders Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 Maybe an idea to train the dog to do the braking? Dogs always like to help out and not busy with more important things... You could train the dog to bark when the signal light goes on and off too. John Quote

greg g Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 Me, I just look at the amp gauge with the switch off. You can tell if the brakes lights are working. Quote

BobT-47P15 Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 I've used the 'tire tool to press the pedal' method as well as turn out the garage lights and watch the reflection on the door. Can also check the turn signal flashers that way. Quote

Don Coatney Posted July 14, 2008 Author Report Posted July 14, 2008 Me, I just look at the amp gauge with the switch off. You can tell if the brakes lights are working. In the old days I could do that. With my new LED's they dont draw enough current to move the amp gauge. Quote
