Jim Yergin Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 You may need to watch it twice; once to watch the Burma shave signs change and once to catch all the pictures plus listening to the music of the Statler Brothers. For those of you too young to remember "too bad you missed it!" http://oldfortyfives.com/DYRT.htm Jim Yergin Quote
PatS.... Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 We didn't get the Burma-Shave signs here and I'm a bit young for some of those things but not all Always liked the Statlers, though...one of the best groups ever...sorely missed as well. Thanks, Jim, I enjoyed that! Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 Harold Lou Don and Phil...'do you remember these'...great group..excellent intertainment..and as a kid I do recall seeing a couple sets of the Burma-shave signs...dad made a point to be sure all 4 kids in the car had a chance to read all the signs... greg g Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 Counting flowers on the wall......Somewhere I have a book of all the official Burma Shave signs. I will see if I can find it and bring it along this weekend. Quote
Dennis Hemingway Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 The Statler Brothers are/were a great group to listen to while driving. There is someone who is putting up Burma-shave type signs along Old Route 66 between Victorville & Barstow. Dennis:cool: Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 somehow Norm I picture you with a tube of that stuff... You wonder where the yellow went..................when? Quote
anthonyb Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 Oooh! Oooh! Oooh! I Know! I Know! Even used a bit of it as a young'un even though I'm not as chronologically experienced as some here. Quote

greg g Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 He saw the train He tried to duck it He kicked the gas And then the Bucket. Burma-Shave and apparently tailgating has been with us a while: Is he lonesome Or is he blind? Niel Hoback Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 There is a small book around here somewhere in my stuff called "The Verse by the Side of the Road". It has all the signs arranged by the year they were used. Some are quite funny. I remember them along the side of Indiana 130 between Wheeler and Valparaiso. We wondered what happened to them all, figuring people just walked off with them, but the book says the Burma-Vita company went around and collected them all. Gotta find that book. Quote
50PlymouthSled Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 I'm a Royal Crown and Murrays kinda guy personally. For what it's worth. Hah. Quote
greg g Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 Neil that book is what I picked the above ditties from. It was my Dad's, a birthday present from his sister's Husband in 69. My dad was and avid sign reader Burma Shave and others. Remember when every town you passed through had at least one or two shops with large lighted advirtising clocks in their windows. Quote
TodFitch Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 I too have the "Verse by the Side of the Road" book. Among my favorites: Twinkle, Twinkle One eyed car We all wonder Where you are Burma-Shave At crossroads Dont trust to Luck The other car May be a truck Burma-Shave Don't lose your head To gain a minute You need your head Your brains are in it Burma-Shave Quote
