The green 47 I got from Bobbie Hodge- this is a first for me- I installed a new sending unit on the gas tank and presto gas gage works. Now ALL Original gages work- Just curious How many of us have cars that all gages worked when we got them?

They all worked in my 49 Suburban to my surprise! Now...if it just had decent floor boards.

Only the Amp gauge worked on mine. Took quite a while to figure things out, but now have everything working including a tach and a numbered temp gauge to go with the NOS one.

When I FIRST got my car nothing worked. I spent $500 for the car and have not stopped spending. Spent a lot of time on the bay, junk yards, swap meets.

I got a new gas sending unit. It was left, unattended, in the garage and the dog chewed the cork off.

When it was all hooked up - finally - I went for a ride. Going up the hill near my home I was amazed that the gas gauge was reading more and more. I thought it was because I was going up hill. Finally the gauge read Full and the car died. Had to call my wife to come and get me with some gas.

Learned a very valuable lesson - you have a 50 - 50 chance of hooking the gas gauge wires up correctly. :P

2 out of 4 worked for me Lou, the oil, amp gauge, the gas no, as I had no gas tank or fuel sender, the temp gauge is still not in use, I have an aftermarket one for that. The speedo had no cable either...................Fred

Gas gauge wires were frayed. Put new ones on and they seem to work. Speedo was disconnected, hooked it up and it reads about 10 m.p.h. fast. I pulled the inner cable out, lubed the snot out of it ( but not with snot) and still reads fast. I pulled the drive gear and it is a 17 tooth gear, which should be right. Oh well, I'll just keep lubing it and driving it. Rest of the gauges were fine. Wayne P.

Everything worked except the gas gauge. I checked the sender, seemed bad, so had it rebuilt. No joy.

Replaced the wiring harness, still didn't work.

Replaced the gauge, STILL didn't work.

Replaced the gas tank, changed to an aftermarket sender and gauge using original wiring, works fine.

So the OEM gas gauge remains my one real failure!
