Thanks for all the info over the years, folks. I am no longer the owner of my 47 P15. Thanks for all the great stuff you all have done!
I will be lurking as I plan to build a 1930 Ford model A with a Dodge 230 and some other period 1950s mods.
If I go to do the 12v conversion, I will prolly go with a more original looking generator, rather than the GM style one. Gotta get the engine back in 'er first, though.
I think its cool that Essex made a truck. The 1920s and 1930s are my favorite era. I attribute that to spending time with my grandfather as a little kid, looking at automobile pictures of this era. He was born in 1917, so he remembered a good many of these cars and had an appreciation for them. Years later, so do I.
I have a 230 and a 218. I was looking at making the 218 a stroker using the 230 crank, rods and pistons, because the 218 block is in better overall shape.
yeah. I probably will go that route, now that I see I can get what I need. Is there a special arbor or tool to use with a press to get them out and the new ones in?
Wow, I cannot believe I did not think of that. I have bought all sorts of other stuff there for this ole turd. Whats even better, is that they make different i.d. and o.d. bushings.
Thanks for the heads-up!
Hello folks. I have a 230 question. Has anyone else noticed issues with the center two crankshaft main bearing journals ridging (raised up and worn convex) in the area of the bearings' oil channel? The ends do not apparently have an issue. Is this indicative of a bent crankshaft?
I am putting my 218 back together with some OEM pistons and have noted some slop in the wrist pin to rod bushing clearance. The pistons that came out are not OEM and have split skirts. My assumption is that this was patched together at one time.
1.What is the clearance supposed to be at the wrist pin to rod bushing fitment?
2. Other than VPW, are there any resources on bushings for sale?
3. Would anyone be willing to sell known good 218 connecting rods with/without pistons?
Thanks,
Mark in NC
