Joe Flanagan Posted February 18, 2008 Report Posted February 18, 2008 Which I did this afternoon. But before I painted it, I took the following pictures. This was after I'd gone over the entire floor, inside firewall, and trunk with a cup brush with heavy braided bristles. Attached to an angle grinder, this thing will take off just about anything: Quote
oldmopar Posted February 18, 2008 Report Posted February 18, 2008 Almost looks too nice to paint. When its done do you plan to go with the stock style rubber mat or upgrade to carpet ? Ed Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 18, 2008 Report Posted February 18, 2008 lets see some primer on that unit...looking good..dedication pay off but sure take some time getting there...... in addition to my PM to you..the lower washer in the place you questioned are conical....kinda special... Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted February 19, 2008 Author Report Posted February 19, 2008 Old Mopar: I think I will use the stock rubber mat. Since that is such a long way off I haven't even given it much thought. Tim: Yes, I noticed the washers. Never seen those before. Quote
greg g Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 Holey crap my arms are tired just from looking at that. Got any bristles left on the grinder brush???? Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted February 19, 2008 Author Report Posted February 19, 2008 Yeah but the thing was starting to throw bristles toward the end. I had to put on some glasses. Every now and then it was like someone shot me with a BB because a bristle would spin off and whack me in the arm or the neck or somewhere else. I have bristles sticking through my clothes too and you know what a nice feeling that is. I think I'll retire that particular brush but it is definitely my favorite tool for that kind of work. Quote
Johnny S Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 Joe...its looking great. It will look wonderful with a "paint" job. You may have mentioned what you are going to use but I don't recall... POR 15 or Rust Encapsulator or straight paint or ??? Quote
mackster Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 looking good! you have way too much patience it's un-human like for me to think of doing thta much work. I'm real lacy and I would give up half way thru. Great Job! Quote
David Maxwell Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 I tried one and on my car it just sort of baked the paint. I gave up on the thing and media blasted most of it. I painted mine with POR15 and had great results. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted February 19, 2008 Author Report Posted February 19, 2008 I used Zero Rust on the floor. It comes in cans and aerosols. From everything I've read and heard it is much better than POR15. I've seen some independent tests and the stuff is pretty impressive. I heard somewhere that the military uses it on their equipment. Don't know if it's true or not. I frequent another site that focuses on body work/paint/rust repair and they swear by the stuff. Quote
JerseyHarold Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 Joe, Your floor looks great. Keep up the good work. What's the address of the body repair site you go to? Harold Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted February 19, 2008 Author Report Posted February 19, 2008 Harold, It's www.autobodystore.com. There are very good tutorials posted there on welding, painting, rust treatment, etc. They sell instructional videos, too. Lot's of good information there from guys with a lot of experience, just like this forum. It's a good place to ask questions if you're just starting out in the hobby too. Quote
toddbracik Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 wowee Joe, looks real good! Quote
steveplym Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 Looks great Joe. You are doing some great work! Quote
