I see this kind of stuff and it makes me pretty sad. Quote
greg g Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 hey it's a road worthy old mopar. Suppose if you dregged it out of the bone yard with the pieces missing, and got it to this point well at least it not sitting and rotting. And I like the self defense capable shift knob. Quote
Kustom52Mopar Posted February 12, 2008 Author Report Posted February 12, 2008 I'll have to agree with you greg it is road worthy, far as we can see. Just a pet peeve when people butcher a good car. To each their own? Quote
Guest rockabillybassman Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 Does'nt look to me like it's butchered...... bolt on some front sheetmetal and it's good to go. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 Well, I say paint it flesh color and then paint a "Pink Poke a Dot Bikini" on it and you'll be all set. If I were to do another project it would be something like this. Just pick up an old shell of a car and then add whatever I can find to finish it. Much more fun than trying to make it look close to original, or even making a nice street rod. Quote
62rebelP23 Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 what would you be willing to bet that the rest of the sheetmetal is still at this guy's house? i bet his Mom has been threatening to call the junk man for months. Quote
Don Jordan Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 Wow!! I'm not sure but it almost looks like the guy did that on purpose. I didn't think they were that cool when they were cool. Quote
PatS.... Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 That's just funny!!! I was looking in the background to see what kind of tires were on his mobile home, but can't. Lots of things in this world to be upset about, but in my world this ain't one of 'em. It's just hilarious is all:D Quote
47heaven Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Dodge-1948-Dodge-Fluid-Overdrive-RAT-HOT-STREET-ROD_W0QQitemZ110222689695QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item110222689695Copy and paste that link, I don't even know what to say other than what the title describes. I see this kind of stuff and it makes me pretty sad. Yeah...it seriously looks like the guy that did that to that car was on some serious crack, but as mentioned...it can be saved and restored. Quote
Kustom52Mopar Posted February 12, 2008 Author Report Posted February 12, 2008 Ya I guess its not so much that car but thats its apart of the whole "rat rod" trend going on. People paint wheels red and paint the car flat black and just like that you got yourself a rat rod. I know this isn't the site to debate all that its mostly a matter of opinion, just gets under my skin when people call my car "one of them rat rods like jesse james". Sorry, just fighting the urge to go on quite the rant. Guess I'm a bit of a hot-headed kid, I should follow the wisdom of everyone else. Its still restorable right? Quote
Don Coatney Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 What is wrong with it? To me it looks no different than any other car I see that has fuzzy dice hanging from the mirror. Quote
Normspeed Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 Yeah...it seriously looks like the guy that did that to that car was on some serious crack, but as mentioned...it can be saved and restored. A couple more visits to Norm's Speed Shop and that's what they'll be saying about your coupe. That Dodge makes me chuckle when I look at it, I can see the guy has been having fun with the project. Maybe it's a subtle statement on current fads. Hmmmmm..would that be a parody or a satire? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 it is obvious the guy does not Know a flip about Dodge and its history especially in the transmission area...and that shift knob is totally Rat Class...(why do they do that) and the sales hype makes it sound like about 8 hours work and you be right and ready...I do envy the clean chrome dash though..it appers in very good condition. The rear trunk corners has the obvious rust through..good car to start with but gots long way to go... Quote
Flatie46 Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 Ya know I hate to see cars just sit and rot [ espcialy mine ! ] At least he's doing something besides crushing it. I saved my parts car from the crusher I've been thinking about doing it up like a 50's era race car. Maybe the guy that buys it will do it right. Quote
62rebelP23 Posted February 13, 2008 Report Posted February 13, 2008 the concept and execution are flawed IMHO. after the mid '30's, removing the fenders simply exposed underfinished sheetmetal and resulted in losing the mud/water/debris protection for the greater part of the body. cars had gotten vastly larger during that period and in particular, the windshield on most cars was probably 30% larger than on earlier models, and much more vulnerable to damage from road junk thrown up by tires. then there's the question of aesthetics... a fenderless highboy or phaeton is one thing; a fenderless D23 looks like Aunt Tillie wading at Coney Island. you love her 'cuz she's your Aunt, but she sure looks funny in a bathing suit. 51 Fargo Posted February 13, 2008 Report Posted February 13, 2008 Well that just shows you that when you drink over proof rum and stay up for 4 days strait with no sleep and smoke that sweet leaf that you can be very creative:D Quote
Guest mattblack Posted February 13, 2008 Report Posted February 13, 2008 I feel sorry for the kids. Quote
