55 Fargo Posted February 20, 2007 Author Report Posted February 20, 2007 Larry, I was looking at National Weather Service for you area today when I was at work, I thought this chnage of weather would make you happy. Hey enjoy it, we won't have that kind of weather for about 6 weeks or so.....Fred Quote
knighthawk Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 O K ! you got me ! This weather IS great ! Maybe I didn't want you guys to feel bad by telling how nice it was here........... OR ......maybe I just like to complain...........you know..... some people are just never satisfied......... we got our first BIG spring thunderstorm comming later this week about Saturday, and they didn't say any thing about snow, so maybe spring is here!!! Quote
Brendan D25 Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 It was a wild and windy night out here in the North Atlantic, about 30-35 centimeters (1ft.) of snow and winds gusting over 100 k.p.h.(60-70m.p.h.). Brendan. Quote
knighthawk Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 WOW !! compared to that, it is really nice here ! even if it is cloudy, overcast, no sun ...................... supposed to be 60's today, I don't know, it has a long way to go ........ I hope you ''northern guys '' can get some of this warm stuff, maybe get a early spring ? Quote
Chester Brzostowski Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 This has to be one of the most responded to threads of all time. I believe that my post is number 229. It is no wonder why the weather channel is one of the most watch cable shows on the tube. The show itself never really ends just goes on and on. I know that I must have responded to this post somewhere down the pike but just couldn’t resist posting again. I wonder who will be # 230 and at what number this post will finally subside into archival history. Has anyone actually kept up with all 220+ posts…???? Actually there are some interesting stories and jokes. This might be the start of one of those bathroom books. The kind you can scan without actually having to read the whole thing. Needless to say I jumped through a number of pages and got more then one chuckle. Chet... Quote
55 Fargo Posted February 20, 2007 Author Report Posted February 20, 2007 Weather is always a hot topic and sometimes a cold one. I pay close attention to weather as I drive on a rural highway to work 25 miles each way. We also live in the country, so country folk also need to regard the weather for a lot of reasons. This morning on the way to work, we had a 2 inches of powdery snow overnight, I was exiting from one highway to another, when a snow plow was going in reverse at high speed in this exit lane, I could not stop, I was doing about 35 to 40 mph, he had created a very slick surface, my only option was to go wide on the shoulder and keep going, I was only inches from his blades, looked like something out of a movie, I just kept driving and got to work safely...............Fred Quote
PatS.... Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 My MO in checking the forum is to use the "New Posts" function, so whenever this thread has a new post I check it out. Interesting weather related stories, and those funny guys blaming the bad weather on the Alberta Clipper. One way of getting Alberta known I guess GTK, maybe you should change the title to "The Weather Thread" that way it won't die. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 Chet, I believe you were #230. The thread that won't end. Pretty cool Quote
Niel Hoback Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 This has been a very entertaining thread, its got everthing. Humor to information. Its really fun to see whats going on all over the continent at the same time. I am sick of the weather here, so I get to vicariously visit the weather from coast to coast. I find out I don't have it so bad after all. Thats just another benefit. If I pay attention, I even learn about my P-15. Twenty-five words or less? Can't be done. Quote
Young Ed Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 I can tell spring is close as I spent an hour or so after work in a junkyard wearing only a hooded sweatshirt over my reg tshirt. No gloves and my hands werent even cold! Got both front seats out of a 85 chev pickup for my buddy. His are broken. Quote
55 Fargo Posted February 21, 2007 Author Report Posted February 21, 2007 Not so fast Ed, I know it's warmer in the Twin Cities area than it is here in the Winnipeg area, but you never know this far north we could get a wicked blizzard in March or April. Glad to hear you are having nice weather there, it's been nicer here, but not nice enough to work outside yet, although I removed a dizzy from a car in my yard when it was -20 f for Don C Quote
Young Ed Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 Ya we've actually got quite the storm forecasted for this weekend too. We'll see what actually happens though. Oh and the gift that keeps on giving. I threw all the change that was laying around in this truck we were working on into my tool box. Just counted it up 5.35! What's with people? Quote
1just4don Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 I had a friend back in high school,,,remeber how broke we were back then??? (late 60's) I would stop and pick up a penny off the sidewalk,,,he walked out and if he had ANY change threw it out on the lawn. Next time I am down to his house I will check his lawn to see if he is still doing it,,,has to have no grass covered solidly in coin IF he is,,,has lived in same house for 20 years. I always asked why he did that,he said if it isnt a dollar bill it aint worth keeping,,,I guess he couldnt take the jingling in his pocket!! bet his lawnmower doesnt like that practice either. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 Been in the 60s here in southwest MO this week....seems like summer. However, the farmers almanac said there may be another storm before long. Hope they're wrong.....time will tell. Started the car last night and let it run a short while. Need to do some things to it, but been too cool out in the garage. Mostly the car is being used as a storage shelf for assorted stuff for the while. Quote
knighthawk Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 South East Kansas here, 40's this morning, high near 70 last couple days, strong winds forecast this weekend. Seems like spring is here, but makes me think only of all the projects I want ( need ) to do this summer ! Quote
knighthawk Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 the ''big'' storm came thru during the nite, I don't know if it was as big or strong as they predicted,I slept right thruogh it all, woke up this morning to see a lot of water standing on the ground, about 52 degrees out. Clouds are moving fast to the North. Last night it was a strong wind comming out out of the East ! Talked to my brother, whom lives just North of the 'Twin Cities" ( Minneasota ) said they expected 12'' or more of snow (?) Forecast here is for couple days of upper 20's at nite, highs in 40's, then back up to 60's . Canada must be warming up by now ? Quote
1just4don Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 Its been like 7PM dark all day today. This morning it was sprinkling,,,then it started raining HARD and lightning and thunder. Off and on all day today. THEN the rain turned to sleet,,,it got tired of that soon. So the resulting snow has been building all day!!! We were just getting it all melted and whammo,,more crap to slip on. The mud and water has been real bad all over. Creeks and riibbers running bank full,,with ice impeeding flows in places. We are expected to get a total of like 6-12 inches, do I need to take a picture, post it on the bay and see if I can 'sell' it??? You can make deep tracks and get stuck,,,sometimes in the middle of the roads!!! Quote
knighthawk Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 well, we had the rain last nite, was nice and suuny most of the day. Just now, the cold front must have come in , starting with a big GRAY cloud and winds, full of dirt ! Wife had clothes hanging on the lines, has to re-wash them all. I hope there is no more snow left for us when it gets here , but the radar shows a lot of blue out to the west of us Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 25, 2007 Report Posted February 25, 2007 Must be going to rain, the pigs are carrying sticks in their mouths..... Ever heard that expression???? Quote
knighthawk Posted February 25, 2007 Report Posted February 25, 2007 no......... I don't get it .... care to explain ? I thinks it's time for another story anyhow. Quote
55 Fargo Posted February 25, 2007 Author Report Posted February 25, 2007 Here in Manitoba, we have had about 4 to 6 inches of snow in the last week, this morning we had some freezing rain, making for a tough ride to work at 630 AM. It's snowing a bit right now, temps are around 30 degrees, I am getting darn sick of this weather, this is about the time of year, that this weather really starts to get on my nerves, my ride home tonight which included about 7 miles over the bog on Hwy 67, was near white out, I was only going 40 to 45 mph, once past the open bog, it was still snowing but I could see for miles. Just think, a lot of planes land here everyday in weather like this.PS, I had no idea this thread would run as long as it had, my only wish was to send greeting from Manitoba, as I am so far from a majority of you guys and have not been able to meet anyone personally, some of you guys are lucky to be located near one another. Young Ed Posted February 25, 2007 Report Posted February 25, 2007 ! Talked to my brother, whom lives just North of the 'Twin Cities" ( Minneasota ) said they expected 12'' or more of snow (?) Forecast here is for couple days of upper 20's at nite, highs in 40's, then back up to 60's . Canada must be warming up by now ? He was right. Didn't much fri night to saturday as predicted but its sure been snowing all day today! Over a foot I'm sure and I think I just heard thunder as I typed this! Weird Quote
knighthawk Posted February 25, 2007 Report Posted February 25, 2007 what happenend to all the benefits of living ' up North' in the clean, crisp air ? I was going to go back thru this thread and find an earlier quote from you , but 5 pages is too much work ! Anyway, hopefully there's only a couple weeks left. I always tought I was a pretty good ice and snow driver, but all it takes is for that one other guy to cause the accident, so , be careful out there ! Quote
Dennis Hemingway Posted February 25, 2007 Report Posted February 25, 2007 The high here today was 60 with 50 mile an hour wind gusts and blowing sand. I was ready to park the Plymouth outside and see if the blowing sand would take off the paint for me but I think I'd better take off the stainless and crome first. Dennis:D Quote
Merle Coggins Posted February 25, 2007 Report Posted February 25, 2007 At the shop where I work there's a door exiting the shop out into the yard and it's in a corner where show tends to drift. This door has a window in the top half as you can see here, Here's a shot through the window on Saturday morning, And here it is again this morning (Sunday) Someone's gonna have fun shoveling it out tomorrow morning. I may have to come in a bit late. Merle Quote
