yavelito Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 hi please can you help me find VIN number on my car car is plymouth 1949 business coupe' with 1948 body title say VIN P151002520 but on the usually vin place I read other as 12094794 were I can found title vin ? thanks Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 The P15 is the tip off..it is the actual engine number..where P15 is model and the rest is the engine sequence number..this was common to register the car by that number. You should find this number on the engine block just above the generator...the other number you found is the actual body number...and you should have found that on the drivers A-post...the frame should reflect the engine number on the left frame rail as it tips up for rear axle arch... oldmopar Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 Depending on the different states some vehicles used the engine number on the title which is what was done on you car. The vin/serial number should be on a plate on the drivers door. My 46 truck had that set I just had the DMV change the numbers I just showed the correct number filled out a form and of course paid a processing fee Quote

greg g Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 According to the reference list your car is an early 1949 production made in detroit should be a special deluxe. Detroit: 12066020-112116123 http://www40.addr.com/~merc583/mopar/framesets/referenceframeset.html The model change over in 1949 was delayed due to labor and material problems. The P15 sereis was continued into 1949 until the "new" 1949 models were introduced starting in late January or February. New "YEAR" models were generally available in september or october of the previous year so by introducing the new 49 after the start of 49 was late by Detroit standards. Quote

New "YEAR" models were generally available in september or october of the previous year so by introducing the new 49 after the start of 49 was late by Detroit standards. Introduction of the "true" 1949 Mopar car line was VERY late. Production did not begin until the middle of February, 1949, in the U.S. and the beginning of March in Canada. The cars were not introduced to the public until late March. Not sure when production of the smaller P17 models began, but they were not introduced to the public until the middle of May and the Suburban in June. Production of the postwar 1946-48 models ended at the beginning of February, 1949, in the U.S. (models built starting December 1 were classified as 1949 models) and the end of December, 1948, in Canada. There was a downtime of a week or so between the end of the of the P15 and the beginning of the P18 models. And Chrysler would not get back to the fall introduction of models until the 1952 model year. 1949 models were built right to the end of December, 1949, with 1950 models starting up in January, 1950 and 1951 models in December, 1950. Cause dad has a 50 ply built in 49. If your father's 1950 was built in 1949, it would have been December, 1949. The whole Chrysler Corporation changed model years around the same time - DeSoto and Chrysler sometimes ended the model year a little earlier than Plymouth. Bill Vancouver, BC Quote
