Plymouthy Adams Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 exactly like I wrote it above...nice photo work Pete..lines parallel witht he bumper..the inner curves of the balls compliment the outer curves of the grille opening... Quote
Fireball Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 I agree with Brendan D25 that the bumper looks kinda heavy, grille is very nice. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 Actually a bullnose would break it all up and serve as a lead-in on the scoop opening.. Quote
mackster Posted January 10, 2008 Author Report Posted January 10, 2008 Here's my thoughts... Pete I like this style too...but I am worry it will be next to impossible to open the hood, hell I can re-do that too. while I'm at it.... Quote
mackster Posted January 10, 2008 Author Report Posted January 10, 2008 Actually a bullnose would break it all up and serve as a lead-in on the scoop opening.. The headlight rings, the rear tail lights and the hood scoop all have bullet points on them. There fore I was thinking of a bullet in the middle of the grill....see there is a method to my madness.. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 with all due respect but is not the hood latch support mechanism located center of the opeing and just a tad forward of the radiator support with a lower mount on the gravel shield/lower rad apron?..this would make the most common brace/bracket support for your donor grill section to mount thereby floating per say in space just below the hood. Norm's Coupe Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 You ask for our vote on what our opinion was on what we think about you changing your grill, so I'll give it. It's your car, not anyone else's. If you like whatever you do on it, then it looks the best that way. If you do what I want or anyone else says looks good, you probably wouldn't be happy down the road. So, again, in the end it's your car and you should make whatever changes in it that makes YOU feel good, not what WE like or makes US feel good. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 Norm..your given opinion was on what you thought of opinions not on the proposed change to the grille... Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 I'm planning something a bit different (again) for my grill. It's different enough for me but looks like every other grill. What do you think good or bad? thanks for your input...Mack G. Norm..your given opinion was on what you thought of opinions not on the proposed change to the grille... Tim, I beg to differ, he did ask us if we thought it would look good or bad. If he wants to make a change to the grill he should not listen to any of us on if he should do it, or what looks good or bad. Didn't read the whole thing, but for one he's asking about our opinion on the bullet in the grill. Now, if he decides to go that way, then he may need some help from someone on how to do it, not if it would look better this or that way. What looks better is always in the eye of the beholder and they should follow their heart. That's why I replied the way I did. Quote

Norm's Coupe Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 the difference you beg in the quote above there is NO comment on your like or dislike...the statement to do as you wish as it is your car falls far short of answering his question of "what do you think about how this looks" Don't want to argue the point. But.........when someone ask me "what do you think about how this looks", they are asking my opinion. I may or may not like it, but that really doesn't matter as long as that person likes it. If he fixes it my way (due to the opinion), he may not like it later down the road, because it wasn't what he really wanted to begin with. He also ask us to vote one way or another. Just like in the upcoming elections, we all vote for who we like in the election. Just because I may vote for one person, it doesn't mean you may like who I voted for because in your opinion the other person is best suited for the job, and that's ok. Because, we both voted for the person in our opinion we felt was best for the job. The best person for the job is only a fact to the person who voted for that person. So in short, when we vote for anything, we are just giving our personal opinion in that vote. By the way everyone. That last paragraph was just made to make a point. It was not made to start a political discussion in the upcoming elections. Again, everyone should use their own opinion, based on their own beliefs when going to the poll to vote. Quote
Don Coatney Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 What I really want,,,,What is most important to me..... That line is straight out of the Godfather movie and also used in the movie Ocean's 13 with a twist of humor. But I have always wanted to say it. Sort of like saying stop the press.... Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 you got to make a point before you can argue it...lol Quote
55 Fargo Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 There you go Don. Have to say this is a great forum, a brotherhood of sorts, even if we disagree we remain friends and cordial to one another, not so on many other forums. Variety is the spice of life, so is change, and Beauty, is truly in the eye of the beholder. IMHO, whatever way Mackster goes with this it will be okay, as he is the one who will look back in pride at a job well done. It is also exemplary that he respects our opinions on his ideas, all great ideas were conceived in imagination, and the want to make changes, other wise we would all still have Model Ts..........Fred Quote

I appreciate your input. I just don't want to be close minded when it comes to styles. That is the reason when I go to carshows, I spend most of the time talking to people and checking out there inovative repair or design. I love it!!! thank you all!!!! Quote
John Mulders Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 I like the last setup (pic) a lot. Seems to match. On the discussion, only an opinion like "I like it" or not is not helpfull. If I would ask such a question I would hope/expect a response with some thought, like "what if you change it so and so as I think it gives the grill a smiley face". That input may make you rethink what you do and the result may be even better than you thought of first. In the end : you make the decision and drive with it John Quote
blueskies Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 couple more thoughts... I've always kinda thought the Chrysler bumpers were a bit chunky, so how bout a '50 bumper to smooth it up a bit? Or, maybe inverted, to make the bottom edge of the bumper tuck under and clean it up a bit more? Pete Quote
Brendan D25 Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 Pete nailed it for me on the second picture. The next step would be to lose the hood ornament and pancake the hood. Brendan. Quote
Normspeed Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 Gonna take a lot of brewskis Mackster. Quote
Young Ed Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 Somebody photoshop in some 49 plymouth bumpers Quote
Fireball Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 Pete's last pic is spot on gorgeous Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 you could photoshop a set of 49's but in reality Ithink they may be a tad short for this car...however the option to use the Briz (sp) bumper is open. Quote
62rebelP23 Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 i like the last version, but i noticed that there's a character line on the hood that doesn't appear on the fenders; maybe consider some subtle pinstriping to disguise the line and flow from the grille to the hood scoop? and i'd keep the scoop IMHO. those flipped '50 bumpers look good; that was a widespread trick in the day. if my bumpers were in better condition i'd take the guards off, but that would leave two shiny spots in a field of rust! and since it's not raining today... outside i go. Quote
blueskies Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 ...but i noticed that there's a character line on the hood that doesn't appear on the fenders... That "character line" that is on the hood is from my quickie photo shop... I tried to align the hood by moving it down a bit and rotating it to line up with the fenders on either side. If you look at the original pic at the top of the thread, you will see that the extra line is not there... Pete Quote
62rebelP23 Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 ahhhh... still say a little Von Dutch style 'striping is needed. grins. Quote
