Hello all,

My name is Dave,

Dad's mighty Dodge has found its way to my driveway.

As the resurrection begins, I'd like to say Hi..

I'll be combing the forums to the many questions I'm sure to have.

He's a 1950 Dodge, that I understand is a deluxe cab.

As dad got older, so did the Dodge.

I'm exited for a new project.

Seems the aftermarket is pretty good from looking.

Talk soon

Dave

Welcome Dave to our (dis)functional little part of the world!  :)  Start a build thread for your project to keep things nice and tidy and to keep us all up to date on your progress.

Here is a link for a thread the memebers have contributed to for parts vendors:

Suggest you buy a Parts Manual and a Shop Manual off the interwebs to help you in your project.

What are your plans?  Full resto, resto-mod, fix and drive?

The search function here can be a bit tricky so this thread was started to help:

Hello All,

Thanks for the welcome and the links Brian and GGdad1951.

As of know the plan is to sort out the mechanicals, doing the usual, drain the old gas, replace all rubber lines etc.

The truck currently has a vacuum brake assist, which in my searches does not show up. Was this an option back it the day?

Was it something that was added? If it was added, I just assume remove it, can't be easy to blead the brakes with this thing sitting a foot and a half above the master cylinder.

Right now the brake pedal goes straight to the ground.

Other than that, I plan on keeping it stock, I remember driving it as a teenager, double clutching and just the nostalgia of it. It has four on the floor with, as my dad called it, compound low so we always started off in second gear.

As it progresses I'll keep y'all in the loop.

Dave

vacuum brake assist was not an option on the B-series...I'd definitely like to see that setup to figure out where it came from, who knows what all has been done to customize that buggy over the last 7+ decades

Good looking truck, I have never seen or heard of a brake assist .... maybe it was a option, Dunno.

The paint looks interesting ..... would be nice to see it all cleaned up.

How long has it been since it was driven last? Finding the hydraulic brake parts for it is pretty easy, drums can be a pain.

I can not tell by the photo if it is a B1B or a B1C .... B1C is simply a 3/4 ton with a larger bolt pattern then the 1/2 ton .... could make finding drums even harder.

Just hope you have good drums and the rest is simple.

Keep us posted and have fun ... share lots of pics.

That contraption does not look familiar, maybe it was an aftermarket kit that could be had at Western Auto or JC Whitney back in the day.  The original drum brakes suffered in performance if they were not adjusted correctly...this doohickie might be trying to compensate for that, kinda like turning up the heat on an arc welder rather than cleaning contamination from the base materials.

Hi Kevin,

It's a San Leandro truck, pretty sure it's non-synchro, always double clutched.

Dave

Ya, trucks before '52 are non-synchro. I found one is a yard in Susanville and bolted

it in. Nice not to double clutch all the time. Kinda wish I'd kept the truck. LOL
