p15-1948 Posted March 7 Report Posted March 7 I've looked at the exploded view in my shop manual and parts manual and I don't see anything. The IAT 4101B I pulled from a 55 Plymouth, plan to use in my 49) while cleaning it I found a partial cork gasket at the base of the distributor right where it would sit in the block. If it is supposed to be there, anyone have a number or source? Edit: still looking but saw at the very in of a Keith's Garage video (Vintage Mopar Ignition Systems- Simplified) He removed a gasket and it was breaking apart just as mine did. I know now it's supposed to be there, but still would like a number or source for it. Thanks Mike Quote
Doug&Deb Posted March 7 Report Posted March 7 I believe one comes in the engine gasket kit but I don’t know if it’s sold separately. I used an o-ring on mine. It works fine. Just take your distributor with you and find one that fits. 3 Quote
Sniper Posted March 7 Report Posted March 7 I think it's part number 1261004, good luck finding it though, 2 Quote
Solution TodFitch Posted March 7 Solution Report Posted March 7 38 minutes ago, Sniper said: I think it's part number 1261004, good luck finding it though, For the Plymouths old enough to have used Delco-Remy, the Chrysler part number is 41928. Apparently the later P15s also used that number. Other than the really late P15 listing, later AutoLite distributors used Chrysler part 640715. I don't have a cross for the 1261004 or 640715 numbers but that early 41928 part number is in the lookup at Vintage Power Wagons and they are selling an O-ring (rather than cork gasket): https://www.vintagepowerwagons.com/products/new-distributor-to-engine-block-rubber-gasket-o-ring-cc41928-n 1 Quote

p15-1948 Posted March 9 Author Report Posted March 9 Wasn't smart enough to think of an o-ring. I did think it would be impossible (for me) to cut that small of a gasket. At the hardware store I did find an o-ring that fits nicely around the base of the distributor. It is thicker than the pieces of cork gasket that remained on the distributor I pulled from a 55. I don't know how much the cork gasket had shrunk over the years. I have ordered a couple o-rings from Vintage Power Wagons to see what they look like. Thanks to everyone making suggestions, I appreciate your help. Mike Quote
