Looks like that could be Malibu Brown, my favorite Plymouth color...

Pete

Here's the 1950 Paint charts, with info for '49 on the third page...

Look at the asterisks, says suburbans were Trinidad brown and station wagons were Malibu Brown. Maybe your's was the Trinidad, which is darker than the Malibu.

What is the difference between the station wagon and suburban? Was the station wagon the woody?

That 41 is a factory sedan delivery not a ruined station wagon.

I thought so too. However turning a wagon into a sedan delivery isn't really ruining it. After all, that's what a sedan delivery was most of the time. The factory would just close in the windows and use different doors on the rear. In the 30's they used 2 door sedans and just changed the trunk area to a rear door.

Pete I think you are right. For sure 49-50 had both woodies and steel wagons. I think the suburban was the steel one and the station wagon the woody.

Reg-

Called my buddy who grew up in Weiser, he went to high school with someone named Pam Meyer. Mighta been her dad's car.

Said they used to take her old man's wagon out and jump it in the sage brush after a couple bottles of MD 20/20, and then get frisky in the cargo bay in the back.

No, not really, just pull'n yer leg:D. He said the names Elbert Meyer and Jackie Fretwell don't ring any bells, but he has a couple of high school friends that still live there who would know. And he's going to see his mom for thanksgiving tomorrow and will ask her too. Small town stuff...

Hey ! Those are great Pete. From the charts it looks like maybe my dash and window surrounds were the Malibu brown (like your beauty) and the body was Trinidad brown. Thanks !

Couple of woodie pics I had saved from somewhere in what appears to be a lighter variation of Malibu Brown...

Don't think I've ever seen the Trinidad color.

Hey....how about this. They've made a sedan delivery out of the HHR's. Saw one advertised by a dealer as "loaded" including a sunroof. This one

appears to have a roof rack, too.

Thanks for looking Tim. Guess these are gonna be hard little rascals to find in decent shape.

I got very lucky in finding mine..I found a site where a guy was rodding one of these wagons and I saw he had aftermarket lens assemblies...as the site had a contact address I inquired of his old assemblies..he replied that he did not think he had them anymore..then out of the blue about a month later here comes a message..he found them stored in the overhead and they were mine if I stillwanted them...trust me it was well worth the cost involved. Hope you get lucky also...

That's all well and good Bob, but it's not like having an old 40's or 50's sedan delivery. IMHO the HHR is just another ill fated attempt by the auto industry to try and promote a new car as being nostalgic. Like the PT Cruiser. There's nothing like having an old one, and better yet to have an old one that never was to begin with. The fun comes in building it.

A year or two back, on one of those Saturday morning TV car programs, they went through a process you can buy in kit form, to make a latex mold of an existing lens and then pour a nice fresh lens from liquid resin or something. Looked very promising. Don't recall the name though. You guys might look into that since you have some intact ones.

Sorry I missed you last week-end Reg, but I can see why now! Very cool. Didn't I see a few like that in your parts yard, or are those different? With all the posts about ebay fraud lately, good idea to see the deal through.

p.s. I did a double take on the name...Grandpa's name was Elwood Myers...

They sure look like it Don. There is an extra lens below the larger lens on the woody but the larger one looks the same.

I'll take a Chance  and contact Mr. Moore.

While down at my little bone yard yesterday looking to see if any of my 51/52 Suburbans had some lenses I noticed some very large footprints in the soft soil around all my cars.

I got a little scared for a second thinking I was going to have a confrontation with Sasquatch  until I remembered that Don had been down there just a few days earlier.

If Sasquatch is in your neighborhood I would have seen him/her when I drove the mountain roads across the valley from your stable in my on road 4WD rental car:cool:

When I had to remove all my clothes:eek: while going through airport security yesterday I noticed bits of soil in the tracks of my shoes. Looks like I brought some of your real estate home with me.:D

Yeah Tim, this all happened very quickly. I spotted the auction late Thursday and by Friday at around 10:45 am I was high bidder. The seller called later that day to say that he could only deliver it from Idaho on Saturday afternoon or I would have to find another hauler.

Did you guys get anything figure out for next springs BBQ ?

Reg,

Great looking car!

Have you tried Google or Zabasearch to see if Elbert is still around?

Thanks Harold !!!! Zabasearch worked. Jackie's address and phone number and date of birth were listed there. She was born in 1927. I gave the phone number a try and after a few rings I hear Helloooo, in a very chipper voice. It was her !!!!!!and she remembers the car very well. It was her uncle Elberts car and he use to let her borrow it in the early 50's while she was attending college in Idaho. She was very talkative and kept going off on little tangents but would apologies and get back to stuff about the car. I told her not to apologies of course and that I was very interested in what she had to say. I wonder if she could tell I was jumping up and down like an excited school girl. Eventually I asked her if she could maybe wright me up a little story about what she remembered about the car and the people involved and she said she'd be very happy to. Then she said "ya know, I think I have some old photos of that car in a box around here. Would you like me to send them to you? She asked for my address and phone number and said she'd send them right after Thanksgiving. She was very sharp for an 80 year old and repeated my phone # and address to me perfectly. If she follows through I'll be sure to post them here. :D :D :D :D :D :D

Happy Thanksgiving to all !!!

I sent a pair of tailight lenses to George Laurie last year in Australia to have them reproduced. I don't know if he's done them yet, but I suspect not since I haven't heard from him. I also sent him a nose badge, and the lens for the tag light. He sent me a tag light lens as it is the same as a DeSoto part which he already produces. He may do the lenses if enough Suburban folks contacted him and were willing to buy, maybe even pay up front. I'd take at least two sets even though I have an nos pair for my car. You can reach him at georgelaurie@bigpond.com.

The split window lift gate was a 49 only item, really neat piece. You are lucky to have one.
