I added a 6 volt alternator and could use a slightly shorter belt. Anyways, the car is in storage and I was hoping to but a belt and do the swap in one trip. RockAuto lists the belt as GATES TR24489, and gives you an alternative option with exactly the same specs. This reminds me that I should probably get a spare one myself ? That is definitely the best method since you don't have the original generator pulley and you want a belt a little shorter than stock. 38plymouth Posted November 13, 2023 Author Report Share Posted November 13, 2023 I used to work at Napa in my previous life and it was my experience that they didn't show anything made by Plymouth in the '30s. Whenever I needed to order parts I had to order from a car from 40 and up. Not sure if that has changed. I guess I'll pull the belt and bring it with me I was hoping to do this in one trip. I am currently running Gates 44" belt (~4" shorter than factory), stock 201 engine, it fits but the generator is at the beginning of the adjustable bracket. This same belt is used on my 39 desoto and it is 48 1/4inches in length. Also here is a listing of all the cars that used this same belt and if i remember correctly it is 3/4 wide. I also just added a document taken from my Mopar Cooling Catalog that has all of the fan belt info and measurements please refer to that also. Dave72dt Posted November 14, 2023 Report Share Posted November 14, 2023 Gates B series belts, nominal 5/8" wide are 3 numbers less than the belt length, B44 would have a 47" length, C series, 7/8 " wide are 4 numbers less than the belt length. C44 would be considered a 48" length belt, actual length is a bit less than 48. B series belts have a limited stocking point compared to A series and serpentines, C series even less. A lot of places besides the big box stores carry V belts. Tractor Supply, Fleet Farm, ag and industrial dealers, hardware stores should be included. If the old belt is bad, cut it, lay it in your pulleys and measure the excess if you need a shorter belt. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
