keithb7 Posted November 11, 2023 Report Posted November 11, 2023 (edited) My wife and I just ended a week-long trip to Arizona. We flew into Phoenix. Picked up a rental RV van and hit the roads. We drove and toured as much as we could fit into a week. We had a fantastic time! We met very friendly, helpful pleasant people everywhere we went. We went north to hike Sedona. Down to Bisbee and Douglas. Caving in Coronado and Kartchner. East over to Wilcox where we tipped a few back with the locals in their cowboy dive-bar, Rex’s. Chiricahua hiking. Heading north again travelling through Why and Ajo. And lots more. We saw so many great places and things but best of all was the people. Kind. Appreciative. Welcoming. From our BLM campsites to the drivers at the truck stops and all points in the between. Living like nomads on the road in our van for a week showed us the real, happy, generous people of America. God-bless America, we love y’all. Special mention to the truckers doing an important job and staying so friendly. I realize now, after I turned off mass-media and all the news doom-and-gloom for a week, I saw the big heart of a really great country, open up wide. Edited November 11, 2023 by keithb7 8 1 Quote

DonaldSmith Posted November 11, 2023 Report Posted November 11, 2023 Canada ain't so bad, either. Nice people, (except for those Doukhobors my mother used to tell me about. Aw, the Doukhobors ain't so bad, either.) I remember 911, when air flights were diverted to Canada. Some lady with a van drove her van full of yanks from the west coast to a border crossing at a plains state, so the yanks could cross wihout interminable delay. I remember a dozen or so Americans trapped in Iran, who escaped with Canadian passports. (Great movie about it.) Today is 11/11, on the 115th anniversary of the end of the Great War (World War I). We celebrate Veterans Day. You celebrate Remembrance Day. Let's rmember our vetrans, and those who gave their lives defending the homeland. 2 Quote

Ulu Posted November 12, 2023 Report Posted November 12, 2023 I am the son of a military man as well. Navy, Air Corps, USAF, & civil service. 45 years all told. Wounded in WW2. Hazardous duty & Remote postings. Survived the Texas Towers. FCAC running Radar in DongHa during Rolling Thunder. Dad handed me some bicycle bearings to clean in 1960, and I have been greasy ever since. He’s been gone for 21 years and I think about him every day. 2 Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 12, 2023 Report Posted November 12, 2023 And unlike we of today, bet he never complained, my father did not and while just a couple weeks from a commissioned officer in corp of cadets he suffered an injury, surgery did not go well on the knee, they put him out on a medical. I so far on this family limb have been the only one to retire from the military. Belated thanks for your father's service....thanks to all our veterans today, stay safe and have fun. 1 Quote
cheesy Posted November 19, 2023 Report Posted November 19, 2023 I'm glad you had a good time, keith. I'm heading to Maine tomorrow via Ontario and Quebec. I have been to Canada since before the pandemic and I've missed it. Quote
