Dave Head
I have an original radio that I'm trying to install in a 1948 B1 Pilothouse My 1948 Pilothouse never had a radio but had the faceplate. Is there a bracket for the back of the radio or does the stud on the back of the radio go through an existing hole in the firewall? Or do i have to drill a new hole. Los_Control
There is. You can see the stud coming out of the back ..... the bracket is a L shape. Not very big. Bolts to the radio then to the firewall or cowl ... I forget. I had a photo somewhere but not on this machine .... I had no dimensions, my plan was to install the radio then make what was needed to mount the rear.
SwannySwanson
Where did you source your radio? That is beautiful! After I get my brakes situated and the glass replaced the radio will be the last major thing for a while.
OUTFXD
No no no. You dont want to install that raido! You want to give it to me! I kid! I kid! That is a beautiful radio though In my car (Key word, car). there is an L shaped braket the bolts to the stud on the back of the radio, the rest bolts to a cross brace that goes from the dash to the firewall. Los_Control
Had to go look at mine to see what I see. It is not as nice as yours, been sitting for years needs to be cleaned ..... no idea if it works ..... I bought it used & I do not know what it came out of. The bracket that came with it tells me it probably came from a car. This bracket will reach nowhere on my truck. Thats why I figured would install it & then make the bracket for it. That was a few years ago, now I changed to 12V - ground & probably will not install it.
Dave Head
Picked up the radio on ebay 10 years ago. Guess I will make my own bracket. Thanks for all your help!
uncleaud
The L shaped bracket on my Saratoga fastened to the stud on the back of the radio and to the brace that went from the dash to the firewall that the vent levers and such fastened to. It was all pretty obvious when I bolted it to the back and held it in place, not sure how different the truck is.
Booger
If the bracket is missing try some 'plumbers tape' galv strapping with holes punched in it
vintage6t
1 hour ago, Booger said: If the bracket is missing try some 'plumbers tape' galv strapping with holes punched in it Probably not strong enough. The radio is relatively heavy. I'd guess the bracket 1/16" to 1/8" thick as it's the primary means of securing the radio to the dash. Dodge_48
I also have a nice ‘40s 802 (I recently picked up on eBay) that I plan to install in my ‘49. I don’t have the bracket, either. However, I do have a copy of the Mopar accessory catalogue for the B1s, and there’s a picture of all the parts that come with the radio, which will give you a good idea what it looks like. My radio has knobs that don’t even look close to the originals. The pic in the catalog isn’t clear. Do you have a pic of the knobs on yours? Sniper
I would suggest mocking up a bracket with poster board and then cutting it out of sheet metal and bending it up
