Mark G Posted March 25, 2023 Report Posted March 25, 2023 Now that I have gotten the engine running, brakes are done new wheel cylinders bleed new plumbing where needed we have come to realize that the bed is just resting on the frame the only thing holding it to the frame is the running boards does any one have pics of how the bed mounts to the frame? thanks in advance Quote
kencombs Posted March 25, 2023 Report Posted March 25, 2023 I don't know what year you are working on, but my 56 mounts with 4 bolts through the outer bed boards and either the frame directly or a bracket, depending on front or rear. Quote
Los_Control Posted March 25, 2023 Report Posted March 25, 2023 I'm not sure on the 1946. 48-50 have metal cross members that go cross the frame ....5 I think. They bolt to the frame then the wood floor bolts to the cross members. Same with the bed sides. Then I have 6 long bolts that go through the wood, cross members that bolt to the frame of the truck. I think the WC trucks had 2"x4" wood cross members instead of metal .... I have never seen one apart. @Young Ed knows and also @dgrinnan maybe they will chime in if they see the post. Quote
Young Ed Posted March 26, 2023 Report Posted March 26, 2023 A stock W series would have 4 wood cross members with either 6 or 8 large bolts through the bed floor crossmember and the frame. I've never seen a solid reason for why some have 2 more. My trucks I used 8 in both although I know the 47 only had 6 originally. The rubber pieces were clipped to the frame to hold in place. Quote
