Woodie Posted June 27, 2022 Report Posted June 27, 2022 My temp gauge has apparently quit as it stays at 160 cold or hot car on or off. Does that mean it is probably developed a leak in the bulb contents? Or is there also an electrical component to it - bad ground for instance. Gauge doesn’t move in either direction. Quote
DJK Posted June 27, 2022 Report Posted June 27, 2022 Did you try tapping on the gauge? The needle may be stuck. 1 Quote
Sniper Posted June 27, 2022 Report Posted June 27, 2022 Other than the light bulb there is no electrical component to the temperature gauge. Quote
TodFitch Posted June 27, 2022 Report Posted June 27, 2022 Stuck at a non-cold position implies a problem within the dash portion of the mechanism. If the suggestion by @DJK does not work then I’d try a close examination of the mechanism. Maybe some debris fell into the works and is jamming it. If nothing appears to be amiss then you may be looking for a whole new assembly. Quote
Marcel Backs Posted June 29, 2022 Report Posted June 29, 2022 If it is a mechanical gauge, it most possibly sprung a leak in the tube, hemorrhaging the ether whose expansion with temperature moves the pointer on the movement. Try carefully removing sender from engine and applying heat to it with a heat gun. If still no movement the gauge is toast requiring the sender to be re filled (new tube and charged sender) or replacing it with a NOS part which should still be available. Both options run about 200 USD plus the now expensive shipping cost. Hope this helps M Quote
