dgrinnan Posted June 12, 2022 Report Posted June 12, 2022 Does anyone know where I am suppose to connect the speedometer cable on my 47 WC 3 speed transmission? I don't see a fitting on either side or the top. Quote
Young Ed Posted June 12, 2022 Report Posted June 12, 2022 Passenger side way at the back is the attachment Quote
dgrinnan Posted June 12, 2022 Author Report Posted June 12, 2022 (edited) Thanks Ed. Boody, thanks for the pic. I probably would of looked at that thing a dozen times before figuring out that was the connection. Edited June 12, 2022 by dgrinnan Quote
JBNeal Posted June 13, 2022 Report Posted June 13, 2022 additional information - 3spd transmission speedometer cable pinion seal Quote
dgrinnan Posted June 13, 2022 Author Report Posted June 13, 2022 Thanks JB. I have a brand new speedometer cable so hopefully the seal is good. Quote
David A. Posted June 13, 2022 Report Posted June 13, 2022 The seal is not in the cable. It is in the transmission where the cable screws on. It isn’t hard to replace. If that seal is bad you will leak fluid even with a new cable. Quote
dgrinnan Posted June 13, 2022 Author Report Posted June 13, 2022 Thanks. I will have to take care of that before I hook things up. Quote
dgrinnan Posted June 26, 2022 Author Report Posted June 26, 2022 I am ready to re-install the speedometer in the dash. What is the path for the cable. Does it go through the firewall and then down under the floor to the trnasmission? What route. Do I cross over the engine along the firewall to get to the passendger side and then drop down or do I drop down the firewall on the driver side and cross over to the pseenger side to connect the cable? Is this the speedometer cable and the correct spot to pass through the firwall? Quote
9 foot box Posted June 27, 2022 Report Posted June 27, 2022 The cable exits the cab at the center hole with a notch cut out on the upper foot board at the base of the inner firewall. There is a 1/4” hole on the firewall about five inches up, to attach a cable clamp. Rick D. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted June 27, 2022 Report Posted June 27, 2022 As 9 foot box said, the cable routes down the inside of the firewall and exits through a notch in the toe boards, then down alongside the trans to the speedo drive at the tail. Quote
dgrinnan Posted June 27, 2022 Author Report Posted June 27, 2022 I have it routed to the transmission. Now I can't connect the cable. The bracket for the emergency brake is in front of the cable connection. I think if I remove the emergency brake bracket I can connect the cable. It appears there is enough clearance once the cable is connected to reinstall the brake bracket. From the angle in the pic it doesn't look like it but the bracket is in front of the lower portion of the cable connection. Quote
dgrinnan Posted July 13, 2022 Author Report Posted July 13, 2022 Just a follow up. It took some real finger dexterity but I was able to get the cable attached and once it was on it did have clearance from the emergency brake bracket. Close but it clears it. Quote
