Old Flathead Posted February 14, 2022 Report Posted February 14, 2022 Greetings,, I have 2 Ball & Ball carbs on an Edmonds intake on my 218. I need advice and/or pictures on the linkage set up. Here's some photos to show you how they attach. Thanks,, Eric 8E2EC9C0-BC47-4C4B-B277-93BA92D4D2CC.heic 62459D92-289E-47CD-8993-0530187A9093.heic Quote
Bob Riding Posted February 14, 2022 Report Posted February 14, 2022 This is how I setup my 2 Carters. Used Crosley oil-bath air cleaners, welded to Plymouth bases. Work great!. Quote
allbizz49 Posted February 15, 2022 Report Posted February 15, 2022 My thickstun has a bar that the original linkage attaches to. That bar connects to the carbs with rods and heim joints. Quote
Old Flathead Posted February 15, 2022 Author Report Posted February 15, 2022 Thanks for the photos. From what i can tell, you are not using a stock bell crank mounted to a stud on the cylinder head? Is the rod connecting the 2 carbs supported by brackets on the Head bolts? Quote

Bob Riding Posted February 15, 2022 Report Posted February 15, 2022 The linkage is attached to the carb bases. See photo Quote
61spit Posted February 15, 2022 Report Posted February 15, 2022 Here is the linkage that is on mine with a Fenton intake. I think it was the original as it was taken off of an old Dodge at a salvage yard and it still had the original air cleaners on the carbs. I did have to have them re-chromed. It is hooked up to the original bell crank throttle set up on top of the head. Let me know if you need more photos. I can take some with it on the engine later this week. Quote
Loren Posted February 15, 2022 Report Posted February 15, 2022 I have that Edmunds manifold. On the bases for the carburetors are bosses for a throttle shaft to pass through. You can get a kit from Summit Racing or Speedway that has all the bits you need. Quote

Sniper Posted February 16, 2022 Report Posted February 16, 2022 Here's how I did the dual throttle bodies on my EFI project, it'll use the stock bellcrank on the head. Quote
Oceanstate88 Posted February 22, 2022 Report Posted February 22, 2022 George Ashe Jr (AoK) builds a very nice linkage setup with undercarb plates/mounting points for the main shaft. Quote
Sniper Posted February 22, 2022 Report Posted February 22, 2022 Here's how someone did it back in the day. Not mine, I know nothing about it but it has some decent pics of the linkage that might offer up a suggestion or two. https://www.moparmontana.com/store/p57/SOLD_Vintage_Offenhauser_2x1_intake_with_two_B%26B_carbs_and_linkage_SOLD.html Quote

Thanks, I didn't think they were still in business. If they are, I can't find them. Quote
Greg51T&CWagon Posted February 22, 2022 Report Posted February 22, 2022 George Asche 814-354-2621 The linkage he makes is a nice set up. I don't have one but he showed me one in his shop. Quote
47 dodge 1.5 ton Posted February 23, 2022 Report Posted February 23, 2022 (edited) I believe the ones that Mr Asche makes seem to be a very good design as they drive in the center with good end supports. I have the factory truck linkage and has too many “wear” points IMO. I have replaced several ends and then find myself changing springs to hold low idle on both carbs and still have both go wide open together. In this case simple is good and plan to make some changes in the near future. Edited February 23, 2022 by 47 dodge 1.5 ton 1 Quote

Yes,, I've read several posts about him and his intakes. Thats the setup I was going to copy. I have the base / bracket flange template made to copy in steel and have made a couple treaded rods lengths,, but George might have the complete set up ready to install. Quote

grea235 Posted February 24, 2022 Report Posted February 24, 2022 I went over the carb base with tabs welded to flat bar stock so that that the linkage could be removed independently. Used heims and connectors from Ace hardware. I welded the levers to a steel rod. Works well. Quote

I've really enjoyed talking to him. He just turned 90 years old and still working. I just sent him my B&B carbs to match. He's a wealth of knowledge. 1 Quote
