dgrinnan Posted January 26, 2022 Report Posted January 26, 2022 Does anyone have a hand crank for a 47 Dodge 1/2 ton. 218 engine. I am going to a swamp meet in a couple weeks and was going to look for one to keep with my truck. I need a picture of the end that engages the engine so I know what to look for. I am sure there are different ones out there. If you have it are you able to measure the width of the tip? 1/2 inch, 3/4 inch, etc... Quote
JBNeal Posted January 26, 2022 Report Posted January 26, 2022 additional information - hand crank dimensions Quote
dgrinnan Posted January 26, 2022 Author Report Posted January 26, 2022 (edited) thanks. that was good information in the other post. Now I have to go take a closer look at mine. I never thought about the radiator. I just assumed mine was set up for a hand crank because there is a spot in the front for one to slip in but I guess that could just be a carry over form previous years? wagoneer Posted January 27, 2022 Report Posted January 27, 2022 Here's an interesting question - where does one get a new radiator with a hole / gap in the front to support the crank, or is the radiator shorter? There is just enough room under the radiator in my 50 to put a deep extension. It would be interesting to see how a radiator differs pre and post hand crank eras. Quote

Ive never tried to crank my 46 but my understanding is the crank is long enough to go through the grill and slip through the gap under the radiator into the special crank nut. Quote
47 dodge 1.5 ton Posted January 27, 2022 Report Posted January 27, 2022 Mine goes through grille, lower radiator tank and into the crank that has a lug for the “crank”. I used it a lot when I first bought the truck for trouble shooting or after it sits for awhile. Very handy IMO Quote
John-T-53 Posted January 27, 2022 Report Posted January 27, 2022 I think that Vintage Power Wagons sells new cranks.... Quote
