SiscoKid4Life Posted November 12, 2021 Report Posted November 12, 2021 I have a 1949 dodge coronet project I’m working on and I would like to replace the mechanical fuel pump with an electric on. But I still want the mechanical one there so it looks original. Is there an electric pump anyone would recommend for my dodge? Thanks in advance for any help. Quote
SiscoKid4Life Posted November 13, 2021 Author Report Posted November 13, 2021 I can’t find an original fuel pump for a reasonable price. Thought about rebuilding it but the pump arm broke. Quote
Doug&Deb Posted November 13, 2021 Report Posted November 13, 2021 New pumps are available with ethanol resistant diaphragm from multiple suppliers. Low pressure electric pumps are available also depending on your preference. Check Rock Auto for a mechanical pump. Just make sure that anything you buy is ethanol resistant. Quote

As for an electric pump, there have been a number of posts here on what people are using, the search function is your friend. Quote
keithb7 Posted November 13, 2021 Report Posted November 13, 2021 (edited) I’ve been lucky and acquired several spare fuel pumps. Have you been looking around spare old Mopar parts to build a little stash for yourself? Edited November 13, 2021 by keithb7 Quote
Bryan Posted November 13, 2021 Report Posted November 13, 2021 The guy at Stovebolt selling me the dual headers suggested I get an electric fuel pump or put a mechanical 1957 one on. Says the line routing is different. Might go electric but dang..was trying to stay original. Still don't like the idea of mechanical diaphragms being open to the engine if they leak. That bothers me. Bryan: In your posting you stated that you were trying to stay original. But when you went to dual headers then the originality of the car exhaust system is no longer original. Yes this was a hotrodder or speed person change but not original. So go the entire route and use the elctric pump and just block off the mechanical pump. Just my 25cents worth of input.
