keithb7 Posted October 27, 2021 Report Posted October 27, 2021 (edited) This pulley is from my 1953 25” 226 engine. (Building a 237 ci) I hope to utilize a speedi-sleeve. Wondering if anyone has the sleeve part number that fits for this application? I measure about 2.1874 ish. Thanks. Edited October 27, 2021 by keithb7 Quote
knuckleharley Posted October 27, 2021 Report Posted October 27, 2021 (edited) I don't know this for a fact, but I would almost be willing to bet money your local NAPA store has a parts number for you. I have bought and used several of them over the years, and they all came from NAPA. I guess if all else fails you could have a machine shop weld it up,grind it down, and case harden it,but I would check every source possible before I spent that much money. Sniper Posted October 27, 2021 Report Posted October 27, 2021 NATIONAL 99218 is what's called for with the 265, same for my 230. RockAuto has the specs. Says it fits a 2.188" shaft. 1 Quote
keithb7 Posted October 27, 2021 Author Report Posted October 27, 2021 Sounds like that’s it Sniper. Thanks. I will order one. 1 Quote
RobertKB Posted October 27, 2021 Report Posted October 27, 2021 The machinist I used when needing work done was old school. He did not like speedi-sleeves as he said they were too thin and could wear quickly and destroy seals. He took my crankshaft pulley, machined it down, and added a much thicker sleeve. Reasonably priced too. Old timer machinists are a disappearing breed. Quote
keithb7 Posted October 27, 2021 Author Report Posted October 27, 2021 (edited) Speaking of crank pulleys. 2 large felt washers came in my engine rebuild gasket kit. I am wondering where they go? Behind front pulley maybe? A guess. I Don’t recall removing an old one when I pulled the pulley. Thx. Edited October 27, 2021 by keithb7 Quote
Sniper Posted October 27, 2021 Report Posted October 27, 2021 parts manual might show in the engine section Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted October 28, 2021 Report Posted October 28, 2021 Right behind the pulley in the cup with a couple "Pointed tangs" to prevent it from spinning in that pulley cup. Just a 1953 and later dust/dirt seal. Quote
keithb7 Posted October 31, 2021 Author Report Posted October 31, 2021 I think the speedi-sleeve install was a success. I removed the flanged lip on one end of the sleeve. I didn’t like how it would have set in the base of the pulley. There is lip machined in the pulley base. @Sniper ‘s part number seemed perfect. As recommended by a friend, I did heat the speedi-sleeve up to about 350C in my oven. Momma was raising her eyebrows but said nothing. I put the pulley in the freezer for about an hour. All went together pretty easily. I did struggle a little bit to get the flange off the speedi-sleeve. But I got it. 3 Quote
