I was thumbing though Don Bunn’s book and realized that I had overlooked something. He showed a pictures of a 1955 pickup and below the embossed DODGE lettering on the tailgate was a “V8” decal.

Does anyone know if a vendor has offered the V8 decal? The decal is pretty sweet looking and I would like one for my 1955 which originally had a 259 poly V8

thank you

Scott

Well, I guess that I’m uncertain now to what is and what isn’t original to my truck. If my memory is correct, I think that 1955 was the first year that dodge put a V8 in their pickups. If that is true then I thought that the decal was original. I did ponder, however, why I didn’t see any remnants of the decal (or handed painted) on my tailgate because the truck was in halfway decent shape when I got it

Thanks for the replies gentleman

Scott

According to Bunn's C-series Trucks Restoration Guide, the 241 Power Dome debuted in '54, and that V8 decal was a '55 only detail that accompanied the 259 V8.  If that is a one year only decal, finding a candidate might be difficult.

Jim Osborn Reproductions might be helpful,  they should be back from vacation after July 5th.

I have a cricut joy. It can do about 5” wide by infinity vinyl stickers. I use it to make resists for electro-etching metal so I only have a roll of white vinyl with a thick backing for cricut use and a big roll of clear transfer tape.

It has limitations but I just made an indian logo set for my buddy’s vintage Indian minibike that came out nice.

It was less than $200 investment but I’m sure a local sign shop could bust you out a handful of vinyl stickers already weeded with transfer tape on them for tens of dollars.

good luck!

Thanks all for your ideas and suggestions. I even found out that mr daughter-in-law has a cricket and could make me a decal. I’ve decided, after some more researching, that the decal wasn’t original. I won’t be making the V8 decal for my truck

I spotted the remnants of this V8 decal on a survivor at auction...looks original to me as there are some specks of the original turquoise tailgate paint behind the decal...
