I just noticed this pic in an old post on the site.  I think it is a 50 Windsor with a modern gear reduction starter.  Do any of the members here know of a source for such starters that fit the 23" blocks?   I see a lot of them for other engines but have never found one specifically for our flatheads.

look above that starter and you will see that may be the NORMAL gear reduction starter as this may be stuck on on a 340 engine.....now the smaller footprint gear reduction starter per the factory Vs can be found as one example, on Dodge Dakota as stock...

I found somebody on ebay that was selling a similar unit for flat head mopars (from vintage auto garage) 3-5 years ago. I have not seen that listing on ebay for a few years now.

Just an FYI - you can used the modern mini starters as used on 318 and 360 magnums on the older chrysler V8's with no issues, a true bolt on.

I saw some casting numbers, but never bothered to really read them.  Yep, 340.

Sure wish someone would make a drive end casting to fit that starter and my clutch housing.  losing weight and having the ability to repair with local parts would be nice to have.  I wonder if the drive pinion teeth are compatible?

Yes my 64 belvedere poly 318 has a 94 Dakota V8 starter.
