tollertdi Posted April 26, 2021 Report Posted April 26, 2021 Need to replace my original Throttle spring for my '48 P15, part number 1120-847. Does anyone know of a close replacement for this spring? I taped it together, photographed it and measured it. All Dimensions in inches: Hooks are 90 degrees apart. Coil diameter: .565 outer diameter Coil Length: 1.935 Long Hook end: 2.075 Short Hook end: .610 Wire Diameter: .050 The first picture shows my spring. The second picture shows my setup from the parts manual. Quote
vintage6t Posted April 27, 2021 Report Posted April 27, 2021 Take your spring to your local hardware store, they should have something close in stock. My local True Value has a decent selection of all types of springs. 2 Quote
Tom Skinner Posted April 27, 2021 Report Posted April 27, 2021 I believe, Vintage Power Wagons or Andy Berbaum also have them. True Value is also a great suggestion. Quote
maddmaxx1949 Posted April 27, 2021 Report Posted April 27, 2021 If you have the means and are feeling like putting in more work than required, This Old Tony has a great video on making your own springs as well. Quote
ccudahy Posted April 27, 2021 Report Posted April 27, 2021 Amazon has a Dorman Help! Plymouthy Adams Posted April 27, 2021 Report Posted April 27, 2021 why it is referred to as an accelerator spring I have no clue...its function is to prevent acceleration without manual intervention and aids in deceleration.......throttle spring...now that is correct.....getting silly now...heading to the great outdoors to do some yard work... Art Bailey Posted April 27, 2021 Report Posted April 27, 2021 The spring on my '48 DeSoto is the "second type", which is about 7" or so. I hunted around a bit, and settled on a double spring (spring in a spring, in case one breaks) for a Plymouth 440 Barracuda. Should give me about 15 extra horsepower. Quote
