58prostreet Posted March 25, 2021 Report Posted March 25, 2021 The reason I remember this car is when I was a kid I worked in a Mobil station at 7 corners Va. One of those came in all the time and got full service. The engine was in rear and the radiator fill cap and the oil fill cap were real close to each other. One of the other kids that worked there either put oil in radiator or water in the crank and it caused a lot of trouble. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 25, 2021 Report Posted March 25, 2021 The Dauphines, Amphicars and Simcas were everywhere in Charleston SC mid-late 60's, throw in a few Hillmans for good measure. Military had a large footprint in the area, all sorts of cars in all sorts of places. Quote
pflaming Posted March 25, 2021 Author Report Posted March 25, 2021 These came to the states about the time the VW came. We had one when first married. Drove it from California to Nebraska 1700 miles, $17.00 for gas. Got 32 mpg on that trip. Quote
TodFitch Posted March 25, 2021 Report Posted March 25, 2021 When I was a child my father got one for use as a commuter car. Lasted for maybe 1/2 year until summer came along. . . The cooling system on it was not up to Arizona summers. 1 Quote
JerseyHarold Posted April 5, 2021 Report Posted April 5, 2021 Several years ago I saw a fully-restored Dauphine navigating bumper-to-bumper rush hour traffic on US 9 in New Jersey. I thought the driver was either brave, nuts, or both for exposing the car to that type of use. Quote
