RobertKB Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 Tim, did a very similar thing to my hood nameplate a while back as well. It does tend to add a nice touch to any car in need of it. First picture shows the car a few years ago without it done and the others show the painting done. The hardest part was finding out what the right colours were as there was no colour left on it except for the chrome silver parts which were really good. Finally found a picture of an NOS one on ebay. Sure is cheaper to do it yourself! Quote
RobertKB Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 Tim, you are right, sometimes the little details make a big difference. I am looking forward to seeing your '54 when you have it done and am enjoying the updates as you post them. Quote
Normspeed Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 Great info, this one's going in my file of things to do. Quote
Normspeed Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 Tim and Robert, could you post what colors those were? Were they regular old enamels? Thanx. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 I need to do the same thing on the 54. Have used model car paints in the past to re-do some 54 Chevy emblems years ago. Those flags on the fins were red and white, I think.....or is it red and blue? Quote
Young Ed Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 Tim I already tried to claim first dibs on the car as a whole Quote
RobertKB Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 Norm, on my '53 the red and black are Testor's model paint but lots of coats, I mean lots, to build up the solid colour. Gold was some paint that I had lying around from another project (I think picture frame) but did actually have the gold flakes in it. Lots of coats there. I did not clear coat and use the gray over the colours but I think Tim's job will outlast mine as I believe that was the way it was done originally. However, my nameplate has been done about 5 years and still is not showing any deterioration. Car is washed regularly but is kept inside which I am sure helps. Sure is a cheaper way to go than trying to find and buy an NOS one. Quote
Normspeed Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 If I can get mine near as nice as yours, that will sure work for me! Quote
Mr. Belvedere Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 Yep, I bought a couple reproductions at emblem majic very pricey, and now my daughters will be attending beauty college instead of state university. Quote
