The distributor shop is telling me I have to much play in my distributor and that I need to replace the bushings and my shaft is also worn.   I have another distributor that I know is in working condition but it is  For a earlier 218  Engine not the 230 that's in it now.  I am being told by some people that this will be OK and others are saying you can't put the to 218 part into the 230.  They were only compatible backwards.  What is right?

Write down the distributor number for future reference. You’ll need to order tune up parts for it and it may be different from the original. I have a distributor from a 49-50 engine in my 52 and no problem.

So when I was told " the 218 distributors will not fit a 230. The 230 shafts are necked down to clear the rotation of the crank."  Or the "actually  the skirts on the pistons that is the area of conflict." Are wrong and there is no conflict?

change the original springs and the curve will stay the same   IF there was truly any difference...usually this come about as the fuel improved and CR was raised a bit.

How are you doing, its been 10 years since we last talked.

I have been doing fine and thanks for asking.  How are things with you since you have moved from Macon.  For the record the information you were given is for the 25 inch block in regard to shaft interference.

It has been years since I have been through Hillsville also...it was the old route to WV from SC before the completion of I-77.   Nice area though....little tough in the winter however....

Good point make sure they are both 23" motors. Then they'll fit.
