DJK Posted May 17, 2020 Report Posted May 17, 2020 What do you guys suggest for sealant on the timing cover bolts that go into coolant passage? Teflon tape, pipe dope, ultra grey?? Quote
squirebill Posted May 17, 2020 Report Posted May 17, 2020 I got a can of Permatex Copper Spray-A-Gasket to use for my head gasket. So since I had that I used it on all my gaskets and mounting screws. Since I was building up a newly machined short block, it had plenty of time to cure before it saw any oil or antifreeze . Regards Quote
kencombs Posted May 17, 2020 Report Posted May 17, 2020 I use Permatex #2 .There are other, specialized, thread sealers but that one is cheap and available most everywhere. And, it seems to work. 1 Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 17, 2020 Report Posted May 17, 2020 is the alternator fixed to this water pump bolt or an optical illusion and you taking it off another upper support? Quote
rallyace Posted May 18, 2020 Report Posted May 18, 2020 I used Rectorseal #5 pipe dope on mine. The stuff has been around forever and is designed for water, gas and steam use so it will hold up fine. It is a non-hardening product so removal after years of service is generally not a problem. Quote
