Jeff Ivan Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Maybe it's just my computer, but something weird is goin' on. Now when I do an ebay search and type in say "1951 Plymouth" or "1948 Plymouth", I get the listings for those cars and parts but also Neon, Road Runner, Voyager, Barracuda, GTX,etc. thrown into the mix. It adds a couple more pages to scroll thru now. Has anyone else noticed this? Is it maybe a problem on their end? I first noticed this I think yesterday morning. I know it would be a waste of time to tell THEM about it. I have a couple cents worth of disposable income to spend on parts, and it is more time consuming now. Hope it is a temporary thing. Just letting off a little steam here, Thanks, Jeff Quote
bob westphal Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 It's been that way ever since I can remember. Quote
Johnny S Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 You need to go to your Advanced Search options and add some "NOT" words into the exclusion list. That will get rid of some of the garbage. Just be careful NOT to get rid of the things you are looking for. Quote
Jeff Ivan Posted September 13, 2007 Author Report Posted September 13, 2007 Thanks Johnny S, that works. For the last 4 years or so that I have been searching ebay, I have never had to type in what to exclude from the list, I just clicked on my 'favorites' icon I had set up for 1951 Plymouth. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 From my home search link I get my default page like always before..however if I link to e-bay from somewhere else I get that new format..it is a beta programs that I think will be what they are eventually going to go to..I care not for it..too much garbage...it looks more like a return from google with all the extra non pertinent stuff when compared to a yahoo search...can lead to chanting...go way, go away, go away Quote
Reg Evans Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 I know what ya mean Jeff. My saved searches that I have used for years suddenly started doing the same thing. This seems to work....(1948) plymouth. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 To find the parts listings for a P15, I type in (1946,1947,1948) Plymouth. Not necessarily in color tho. That gets parts plus a few of the cars listed. For viewing cars for sale, I just use the search that includes all older MoPars since I have not gone to the trouble of using the "not" process. Or, if you want to narrow things to just look for trim pieces, for example, just use the designation I gave and follow it with "trim", or "stainless" or "bumpers", or whatever you're looking for. Hope this helps. ebay seems to be constantly messing with and changing stuff......usually somehow to their advantage or to get you to do more things with them. Not too fond of all that, but can't do anything about it. Quote
Brad Lustig Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 The weirdest one I got was a pair of cowboy boots in a search for "Datsun roadster". No mention of "datsun" or "roadster" in the ad... Quote
greg g Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 my basic search is 194* plymouth. The Asteric in the number in computer stands for all so I get 40-49 stuff, close enough when searching for Plymouth. Also in your search uncheck the search description box. Sometimes some of the descriptive material matches your search criteria. My next search is 194* MOPAR then 194* Dodge Quote
bmt47p-15 Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 I was having the same problem the other day. I use Firefox, so I cleared out the private data (cookies, cache, browsing history) and my saved bookmark searches came up right. The right stuff in the years I searched. So I clear my private data out ever once in a while and have not had any problems. Quote
bobby horne Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 The text seems to have gotten smaller and ghosty on ebay. Difficult to read when you don't have good eye sight. Quote
martybose Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 The text seems to have gotten smaller and ghosty on ebay. Difficult to read when you don't have good eye sight. Yeah, I think that's one of their recent "improvements". Marty Quote
47dodgepu211 Posted September 15, 2007 Report Posted September 15, 2007 Yes, something HAS changed at ebay but I can't quite figure out what. It seems that ebay is now so busy with many thousands of listings handled every day that they did some "improvement" to handle that. Sometimes I can't even find what I was watching or bidding on later on because ebay is pulling up so much other stuff. One big complaint I have with all search engines is that if you put in a specific term such as 6 volts, or the site advertiser itself says "6 volts" it shows you both terms or sometimes ONLY 12 volts. Google says to put in a space then + proceeding the term desired or " " bracketing the term but that doesn't work most of the time either. John Quote
Ed Griffin Posted September 15, 2007 Report Posted September 15, 2007 Recently I tried to contact a fellow through ebay's email system about an auction he had that I missed. Wanted to contact him if he planned to relist it and ebay wouldnt let me contact him saying various "preventive" reasons why it was not sent. Basically it was to prevent any offline deals when it came down to it. From now on if I see something I cant afford at the moment I will be emailing the seller before auction end just to have their email incase the item doesnt sell. You can probably get ahold of a power seller through their store but this fellow wasnt one and hasnt listed anything else. Quote
