pflaming Posted December 26, 2017 Report Posted December 26, 2017 I would like to use this SUBURBAN name plate but the posts are gone. Glue, double sided tape, ????? Quote
greg g Posted December 26, 2017 Report Posted December 26, 2017 Dum Dum. 3 M product. Body shop supply places have it. Maybe you can get a strip of it from a friendly body shop owner. https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/company-us/all-3m-products/~/3M-Strip-Calk/?N=5002385+3293194020&rt=rud Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 26, 2017 Report Posted December 26, 2017 (edited) the DUM DUM compound is excellent for pieces WITH studs as this will seal about the stud and the very opening it goes into and will prevent corrosion and loss of stud in the years of service till removal for next paint job......you will need a very good high quality two sided tape or a highly skilled machinist to carefully drill and interference press fit split studs with a very good epoxy..... FlashBuddy Posted December 26, 2017 Report Posted December 26, 2017 I just glued mine on with JB Weld. I was going to try silver solder and hopens my soldering skills were up to the task. If not the plan was to hire a jeweler for the job - but I lost my silver solder! So I went with the epoxy It's holding well so far. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 26, 2017 Report Posted December 26, 2017 I am not sure the metal would have withstood the temps required for silver solder... Quote
FlashBuddy Posted January 2, 2018 Report Posted January 2, 2018 Interestingly, I found my silver solder and used it on a cracked hubcap. Sanded and polished and it worked suprisingly well. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 2, 2018 Report Posted January 2, 2018 we talking a whole different ball game here..for one the very metals of the hubcap verse that of the script are not the same, the alloy that is the script would not survive the temps of silver solder and silver solder would not stick to it if it did survive....not sure if you could even attempt to use that low temp muddle puddle stuff they hawk at swap meets repairing beer cans...excuse me, but beer cans are meant to be thrown away....never saw a need to repair one... FlashBuddy Posted April 10, 2018 Report Posted April 10, 2018 Wekl, as luck would have it, my hood slammed shut, the DODGE script flew off, hit the floor and cracked in two. I'm going to silver solder it back tigethe. I'll let you know how that goes Quote
