doogan Posted October 30, 2017 Report Posted October 30, 2017 What frames are interchangeable under the pilot house pickups? I was told they are the same from 1937 to early 1950's. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted October 30, 2017 Report Posted October 30, 2017 (edited) They cannot be the same all those years for say a 1/2 ton. W series will be different totally... different cab mounts.. steering gear position and more... 1948-50 probably are the same...51-53 same as long as say the same wheel base and trans option. doogan Posted October 30, 2017 Author Report Posted October 30, 2017 Thanks. I found a 1947 frame and have a 1949 b1 cab I would like to mount and build a wooden flat bed and thought this may work. The seller said the frames were all the same and that just didn't sound right too me. Thanks again. Quote

frankendodge Posted October 31, 2017 Report Posted October 31, 2017 are u looking for a long frame or a short bed frame? Quote
doogan Posted October 31, 2017 Author Report Posted October 31, 2017 Doesn't matter just so the cab will mount up. The cab is a 49 b1 with no bed as I am going to build a wooden flat bed on it. The frame I'm looking at is a rolling unit with engine. Seller says 47 so I have measured the bolt mount distance on the cab and will go back and check frame mounts. Sure looks like a 49 but seller says 47. Not sure if there is a difference. Quote

There is quite a difference. Can you post a picture of the frame? It's quite obvious which is which. The battery I believe it outside the frame on a pilot house and inside on a W. If stock the W will have a rear sump pan and the pilot house a front sump. Quote
1949B-1-C Posted October 31, 2017 Report Posted October 31, 2017 I have a frame from a 51 or 52 3/4 ton if you are interested. Where are you located? Quote
doogan Posted October 31, 2017 Author Report Posted October 31, 2017 OK. Worked out to be a 49 at least the cab mounts up just right so I guess it is. Thanks for all the information and help. Quote
48Dodger Posted January 4, 2018 Report Posted January 4, 2018 The frames are the same general dimension 1948 thru 1953. The mid cross member faces a different direction 48-50 vs. 51-53 The locating holes for the steering are the same for 48-49 The locating holes for the steering are the same for 50-53 The steering brace to the frame is in an "open" position 48-49 The steering brace is in a boxed, or "closed" position for 50-53 note: This is why a 48-49 steering column/box will NOT interchange with a 50-53 frame I made a video awhile back showing the two different steering bracket set-ups: Estrada Motorsports 1948-53 Dodge Trucks: Steering Bracket 48D Quote
Merle Coggins Posted January 4, 2018 Report Posted January 4, 2018 Tim, Are you sure that the steering units are the same between the B-2 in ‘50 and the B-3’s and B-4’s of ‘51-‘53? I believe that the steering column angle was changed in ‘51. I thought the steering units were different to accommodate that change. Merle Quote
48Dodger Posted January 4, 2018 Report Posted January 4, 2018 Hey Merle, I'll double check the angles, hole locations etc.....I just got a 53 frame recently that has it steering.... 48D Quote
