Ok so today I have to put my fuel filter back on my truck. It goes right into the carberator. My question would you just put it back in or use some sort of thread sealer on it. It didn't look like anything was on it when I took it off. Should it juat seal it's self. There is a needle in the fuel filter fitting.

The needle that you are talking about is nota filter but this needle control the flow of gas into the bowl on the carb. The needle is inside a threaded holder and you should not need any sealer on these threads.

Ya I noticed that and I was putting it back on. Had it hand tight and the brass fitting snapped in half. Probably had hair line crack already. Now need to find another one.

the base nut that is the flared line tube inlet and combination needle and seat should not be a point to screw an inline fuel filter as they are not suited for the ball that is the flare seat within....suggest when you get a need needle and seat inlet that you terminate the fuel entry with a flared tube.  Modify your inlet tube for inline filter...

no needle and seat required, (UNLESS IT IS DIRECT BY FACTORY TO THE INLET OF THE CARB) if not, proper fittings for flared tubing....that is a sediment bowl, ole timers do not call that a filter...will need to see picture of other end and broken fitting

 

IF your unit is stripped out or missing all the fittings..a trip to the hardware store may be in order..remember to insist on flare tubing fittings.....else...match you  unit here possibly.....

As stated that is a special fitting that is part of the needle/seat that works with the float. I'm not even sure where you can get one, but I'm sure they're available somewhere.

There should be a filter inside that glass bowl. It was likely a sintered bronze stone looking filter, but there are paper replacements available. There is a recent thread going on that very thing right now.

Every carb kit I've ever seen comes with both styles of needle valves.

Ya I have the filter for it and was going to put it back on today and the brass fitting broke in half. Guess it was cracked because I just hand tightened it and it broke. So either I need to find someone with a another carb or I have to keep looking for it. Oh well all part of the fun I guess.

Oh ya I don't need the needle I need the brass fitting and the gasket. The hard part is finding a brasa fitting with the needle hole in it. Plus probably the gasket

it is a sediment bowl...it may incorporate a strainer on the inlet....but to be a filter it would have to be complete with the air stone inside the bowl of if a later style a replacement cartridge....

remove the brass part off the sediment bowl, this is the piece you will need given the sediment bowl threads are still intact...on the other side (inlet) you will need a brass fitting set up for flare for the incoming fuel line from the pump...
